Judge Sends Beanie Sigel To Jail For A Day, Extends ProbationPosted: 1/9/2008 9:56:35 AM by Black widow A Philadpehia judge yesterday (January 8) ordered Beanie Sigel to serve a day in federal prison for violation probation. According to The Associated Press , Beanie Sigel was found guilty of violating his probation for a second time by being in contact with a convicted felon and making a trip to Atlantic City, New Jersey without the court’s consent. Aside from handing Sigel the jail sentence, Judge R. Barclay Surrick extended the rapper’s probation by eighteen months. Sigel will have to spend the first six months of his probation at a halfway house and will be unable to travel to promote his latest album , The Solution. Sigel, who has had various brushes with the law in the past , shot a PSA last month urging teenagers to stay away from the street lifestyle that has plagued him. He also joined an anti-gun rally with Philadelphia native Bill Cosby in December. The rapper pointed out his positive contributions to Surrick emphasizing "he is not the person he used to be". “I'm human, but I'm working on my mistakes,” Sigel told Surrick. Surrick acknowledged Sigel’s positive output to his community but stressed the rapper must deal with the consequences. “If they're looking at you as a role model, you've got to do the right thing,” Surrick said. Sigel’s probation was slated to end next month and could have been sent to prison for three to nine months. |
