As reported earlier, the legendary Houston rapper was found dead in bed in his room at the Mondrian Hotel in Hollywood, California on Tuesday morning (December 4). The cause of Pimp C’s death is still unknown. According to The Beaumont Enterprise, Heather Johnson, a family friend and representative for UGK, revealed today (December 8) that the date for Pimp C’s funeral is still being discussed but it will most definitely take place late this coming week. She revealed that one of the possible locations for the funeral will be the Robert A. "Bob" Bowers Civic Center in Port Arthur, which seats over 2000 people. She also said that Pimp C’s family is currently working on getting the rapper’s body shuttled to Texas because it’s still in Los Angeles. Port Author authorities are expecting the turn out for the funeral to overwhelm the city’s but they are prepared and don’t foresee any problems. “We've never had to bury a music artist but we've handled the biggest event in Southeast Texas, Mardi Gras,” said Port Arthur Police Chief Mark Blanton. “I think we can handle it.” “Traffic is an issue but it will be a civil affair and we'll make sure people can get in and out,” he added. Blanton expects the thousand of mourners to include Houston’s elite rappers including Lil' Flip, Paul Wall and Slim Thug, among others. Word is also swirling around that Jay-Z, who collaborated with UGK , will also attend the funeral. “I would not be surprised to see Jay-Z,” said Blanton. Pimp C, whose real name is Chad Butler, was only 33 years old and is survived by a wife and three children. |
