Lupe’s Collabo With Kanye And Pharrell Won’t Make ‘The Cool’, Trio Plan To Work On Album Next YearPosted: 10/28/2007 8:59:42 AM by Black widow Lupe Fiasco recently revealed that the song “Us Placers”, which the Chicago rapper, Kanye West and Pharrell released as a group called CRS (Child Rebel Soldiers) earlier this year, will not be included on his forthcoming album titled The Cool. “Us Placers” was released via a Kanye West mixtape in May and it become a major hit on the internet and the mixtape scene. The success of the song strengthened the possibility of the trio releasing a full album. “That one record did so much,” Lupe told The Chicago Sun-Times. “It started with me having one verse on it and leaking it on a Web site where it got like a hundred downloads. Then I sent it to Kanye, and he jumped on it and sent it to Pharrell. From there, with no label behind it or anything, it went to having a half-column review in Rolling Stone and being added to play lists and blogs all the way around the world.” The trio’s respective labels are currently in negotiations to release the album. Lupe divulged that the earliest the group can begin work on the album will be next summer. “Kanye got busy with releasing Graduation, and now I'm going to be busy with The Cool, and then Pharrell has a new project with [his side project] N.E.R.D. But there's gonna be an album eventually, and watch out when there is!” explained Lupe. “Honestly, I think it's one of the few good ideas out there in hip hop yet to be done, and it will really draw some attention and have some really great music on it." Fiasco’s The Cool is slated for release on December 18th. Two singles off The Cool, “Superstar” ft Matthew Santos and “Dumb It Down” are currently making the rounds on the internet. “Superstar” will serve as the album's first single. |
