Spike TV's first dramatic series, Blade, which starred rapper Sticky Fingaz , has been dusted by the network after viewers didn't pump enough ratings life into it.

Although the premiere episode drew a strong audience of 2.5 million to the cable show, the numbers dwindled over the 12 episodes of its first season. By the time #12 aired, viewership was down to less than 900,000.

So, too bad - there won't be a second season of the show because Spike has pulled the plug on it, Variety reports.

Blade was a TV adaptation of the hit Marvel Comics movie trilogy which starred Wesley Snipes as a "daywalker", a half-vampire battling the forces of the undead.

In the TV series, Blade fought a renegade vampire clan which was developing a formula to help the bloodsuckers walk in the daylight - but the "researchers" had a sinister double agenda.

The Blade slot next season will be filled by the John Leguizamo heist thriller Kill Pit about a big robbery pulled off by ex-servicemen.
