Did Alicia Keys Double Deal on Book Deal?

Alicia Keys is facing claims from her former literary agents that after they worked to help her set up a book deal, she went behind their backs to set up her own deal with a rival, costing them their fairly earned commission.

Alicia Keys clearly knows how much she's worth. According to court documents, Putnam Books has offered Keys a million dollar, multiple-book deal advance that will include a book of poems and lyrics penned by the musician. But now Lukeman Literary, a Manhattan-based book agent, has hit Keys with a lawsuit, claiming it helped the singer obtain a million dollar book deal with publishers at Bantam Dell.

Lukeman claims that Alicia then went behind its back to negotiate a similar deal with rival publisher, Putnam, cheating her Lukeman agents out of their 15 percent commission on what could become a bestseller.

Reps for Keys say the lawsuit is "meritless," adding that there was never a signed contract between Keys and Lukeman Literary, and therefore they were never her legal representatives.

In a statement written by  Lukeman's lawyer ,he argues that there is no written contract showing that Ms. Keys intends to rely upon a legal technicality, but it does not make her actions right.
