Atlanta rap duo The Ying Yang Twins will be appearing on Dr. Phil this month to take on the anti-sagging campaign launched last year by Hip Hop Government, a Dallas based organization.
Hip Hop Government was founded in 2005 by Jay Scroggins, Damon Wofford and Chris Williams with the aim of involving the hip hop culture in political and social issues.
In October 2007, the organization joined forces with Dallas’ City Hall and launched a “Pull Your Pants Up!” ad campaign by placing more than two dozen billboards across the city urging young people to respect themselves and stop sagging their pants.
The Ying Yang Twins and The Hip Hop Government founders will discuss whether the government has the right to regulate the way people dress and whether hip hop artists should be held responsible for the effect that their lyrics and music have on hip hop culture.
Reverend Al Sharpton and Dallas Deputy Pro Tem Mayor Dwaine Caraway will also appear on the show and take part in the controversial discussion.
“We are excited for the opportunity to address issues that concern our culture,” Williams said in a statement. “Too often, when members of the hip hop c
ommunity are in the media, it's for something negative. It feels good to know that we are being invited because we are recognized for our positive contributions to the community.”
The episode on anti-sagging is tentatively slated to air on January 28th but is subject to change according to a representative for The Hip Hop Government.
