Mobb Deep's Prodigy, who will begin serving a 3 ½ year sentence for weapon possession next month, reportedly familiarized himself with his forthcoming surroundings by shooting a video behind bars.
According to The New York Daily News, Prodigy shot the video earlier this month in a cell at the Queens House of Detention for eight hours. A correction official told The News that Prodigy paid for the cell.
As reported earlier, Prodigy plead guilty to criminal possession of a loaded gun last November as part of a plea deal and was handed the aforementioned sentence.
The Mobb Deep frontman was slated to begin his sentence last week but he was granted a one month adjournment. He will begin his sentence on February 13th.
Various media outlets claimed that Prodigy's grant from the judge was because of his long life battle with sickle cell but the the Queens rapper denied the reports while confirming his jail video shoot to Sixshot.com.
"Yes we rented the jail to shoot a video there. They use that part of the jail for movies and videos," Prodigy told Sixshot.com. " The judge gave me 30 days to get my career and business in order and the stay had
nothing to do with sickle cell."
Prodigy recently wrapped up his sophomore solo album titled H.N.I.C 2 which is scheduled for release in March via Voxonic Music.
The set, which will feature production from Alchemist and Havoc, will be released in 1,400 languages including Spanish, German and French.
In December, Prodigy talked to Sixshot about his career, his upcoming album and looming jail sentence. Read the interview HERE.
