Despite being recently tossed in jail for a day and having his probation extended, Beanie Sigel is still getting support from a Philadelphia activist group that worked with the trouble prone rapper prior to his recent legal jam.
Sigel, who was sentenced last week to a day in federal prison and had his probation extended to 18 months for violating it, had been working with Men United For A Better Philadelphia (MUBP) to spread the message of anti-violence to youngsters attracted to the criminal lifestyle.
Last month, Sigel along with comedian/actor Bill Cosby and Men United For A Better Philadelphia, held an anti-violence march in Philadelphia that garnered national attention.
“We want Beanie back,” the founder of MUBP, Malik Aziz, told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “We're happy to work with him, but he has to commit himself.”
“If he wants to break away from the criminal side he can,” Aziz added, “but he can't go back just to sell records.”
Sigel violated his parole by going to Atlantic City, New Jersey without the court’s permission. The Philly bred rapper will have to spend the first six months of his probation at a halfway house and was not granted permis
sion to travel to promote his latest album, The Solution.
Sigel’s probation was slated to end next month and he could have been sent to prison for three to nine months if it wasn’t for his positive contributions which included shooting an anti-violence PSA for FOX network last month.
