Ju-Ju, one half of the rap duo The Beatnuts was reportedly arrested in Stockholm, Sweden last night (December 13) for an alleged assault.

According to Sweden’s The Local, Juju and his partner in rhyme, Psycho Les, had just finished performing at the Debaser Medis Thursday when a fight broke out backstage.

Debaser's managing director, Annelie Åkerstedt, told The Local that the person Ju-Ju got into an altercation with was someone connected to their group.

Police spokesman Bo Olsson told The Local that the alleged assault was of a minor nature but because Juju is a not Swedish citizen, he is considered a flight risk and the public prosecutor ruled that he should be detained.

“[Juju] denies committing an offence,” said Olson.  “He can be held for up to 36 hours.”

Juju has claimed that the security guards at the venue did not do their job properly but Åkerstedt refutes his assertion.

“That’s pure bullshit,” Åkerstedt emphasized.  “The security did the job they are supposed to do.  They didn't let anybody backstage who wasn't supposed to be there.  They intervened quickly and called the p olice, exactly as they should.”

The Beatnuts rose to fame in the early 90’s as part of the Native Tongue family which included Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul. Aside form rapping, the duo are well respected in the hip hop community for their production.
