Cash Money Records founder, Bryan ‘Birdman’ Williams, recently spoke about his recent arrest on marijuana charges in Kingsport, Tennessee.
As reported earlier, Kingsport police pulled over a rented RV which was carrying the CEO/rapper and his entourage yesterday evening (November 27) after they claim it made an improper lane change.
The cops claimed they discovered a pound of weed in the RV's kitchenette and also seized several guns including a 9mm handgun, a 2-23 carbine assault rifle and a .45-cal. handgun.
All sixteen people in the RV including a woman who was reported to be Birdman’s wife, 18-year-old Brittany Williams, would be arrested and charged with possession of over 1/2 ounce of marijuana.
Birdman and the rest of his entourage would be released from custody on $1,500 bond early Wednesday morning (November 28). No weapons charges were filed.
The New Orleans rapper told MTV News today afternoon that there was no pound of marijuana in the RV as the police claimed, and that the guns that were seized were licensed.
“We was on the bus. I was asleep in the back,” Birdman explained. “Why they pulled us over, I don't know. The people are making the situation out worse than what it is.&nbs
p; We got arrested for a misdemeanor amount of [marijuana] — we didn't have no pound. The police just found something minor in a garbage can the dog sniffed. We all got out on bond.”
“The guns we had were good,” he continued. “I do carry a gun and I am licensed. Tennessee is one of the states I can tote in. We know the guidelines [for carrying weapons]. They make you aware of everything in [marksmanship] class.”
Birdman also stressed that he is not married to Brittany Williams as reports suggested.
“I’m not married,” he emphasized. “Never! Been! Married! Plus, that girl was 18! I don't get down like that! Plus, if I was married, why would I keep it a secret?”
Birdman, who revealed he is on the road promoting his upcoming album titled 5 Star Stunna, said he is due back in court on March 18th.
“Hopefully all the charges will be dropped by then, and we won't have to go to court,” he said. “ But we good. Everybody is fine.”
