Cash Money Records founders, Bryan ‘Birdman’ Williams and his brother Ronald ‘Godfather’ Williams, were among sixteen people arrested on marijuana charges during a traffic stop in Kingsport, Tennessee yesterday evening (November 28).
According to The Kingsport Times-News, Kingsport police pulled over a rented RV which was carrying the brothers and their entourage on Interstate 81 after it made an improper lane change.
The police said they smelled marijuana from inside the RV and upon searching the vehicle they found a pound of weed in the RV's kitchenette.
All sixteen people in the RV including Birdman’s 18-year-old wife, Brittany Williams, were charged with possession of over 1/2 ounce of marijuana.
The group said they were headed from New Orleans to New York for a BET shoot.
Also seized during the search were a 9mm handgun, a 2-23 carbine assault rifle and a .45-cal. handgun. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) were added to the investigation after the guns were discovered.
No weapons charges had been filed at press time.
KPD Corporal Tim Horne, who conducted the search of the RV, said that the vehicle was taken to secure location to be thoroughly searched to determine if there are more drugs or weapons aboard.
Police
also revealed that several of the vehicle’s occupants had about $1,000 in cash in hand, some had as much as $5,000. They said that the approximated $12,000 to $15,000 won’t be seized unless Officer Kevin Hite and K-9 Odus detect the smell of marijuana on it.
"They're all somehow employed as either a rapper or with the company Cash Money Records,” Horne said of the vehicle’s occupants.
