Dr. Jan Adams, the surgeon who performed a procedure on Kanye West’s mother a day before she died, walked off the set of CNN’s Larry King Live last night (November 20).
Adams had intended to appear on the show to clear his name and dispel reports linking him to Dr. Donda West's death, but he abruptly walked off the set explaining that West’s family had requested him not to talk about the rapper’s mother’s case.
“I want to thank you for this opportunity,” Adams told King. “Basically, I had come here to talk about things in the press that aren't accurate about me but I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for the West family. They asked me not to go on. And I've said from the very beginning, I don't have a side in this.”
“They are my side, and I'm going to respect their wishes,” he continued. “I’m going to apologize to you because I think I'm taking up your air time, but I will not be on the show and I'm not going to discuss any of that. I'm going to honor their wishes.”
Earlier in the show, King revealed that West’s family sent a letter to Adams via his lawyer saying that if he discussed Donda’s case they would ask the Medical Board
of California to decertify Adams.
Before Adams walked off the set, King asked the surgeon if he would ever speak about the case, Adams replied: “I will talk with [West’s family]. When they are comfortable, then I will be comfortable. If they are never comfortable, then I will never be comfortable. They are what's important to me.”
Adams, who has been sued for malpractice in the past, performed a tummy tuck and breast reduction on Donda a day before she died in Los Angeles two weekends ago.
The Los Angeles Coroner’s Office confirmed that Donda died from ‘a possible complication from the surgery’ and the exact cause of her death is still being investigated.
Adams has denied any wrong doing in relation to Donda’s death and claims that the rapper’s mother must have died from ‘a heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or massive vomiting’ due to surgery.
Donda served as Kanye's manager and was a former chairman of the English department at Chicago State University.
Earlier this year, she released a book titled Raising Kanye which detailed his childhood and her experiences as her son's manager.
Donda was laid rest in her hometown in Oklahoma on Tuesday morning.
Kanye, who launched his European tour on Saturday (November 17) in France, appeared at the funeral service along with his friends and family including Jay-Z and Beyonce. John Legend and Anita Baker performed at the private ceremony.
Kanye will resume his European tour on Thursday (November 22) in London.
