Atlanta’s Laced Up Boutique will reportedly be selling pairs of diamond-studded Nike Air Force 1’s for $50,000 at the end of this month.
According to The Atlanta Journal Constitution, Laced Up, which caters to various Atlanta’s based high profiles stars including Outkast’s Big Boi and T.I., linked up with Priyya and Chintans Diamonds to create the one of a kind sneaker.
Laced Up and Priyya and Chintans took the “So Cal” Air Force 1’s, which retail for $225 without bling , and flooded it with 11 karat diamonds around the Nike logo which is cast in gold metal. The diamonds are studded in casings held together by a fine gold stitching.
The sneakers will be unveiled on November 27th and luckily for Outkast’s Big Boi, he will be getting a pair of the blinged sneakers for free, compliments of Laced Up.
Laced Up’s owner, Ernel Dawkins, expects the sneakers to be a big hit with his celebrity clientele.
“People in the entertainment industry aren't afraid to spend big money, and sneakers are becoming like collectibles,” Dawkins said.
“In the hip-hop industry, it's all about topping each other,” said Rita Patel, owner o
f
Priyya and Chintans. “We think it will be well worth it in the long run.”
“I have never heard of diamonds on sneakers, but it's a natural progression. It speaks to the whole rise of sneaker culture,” Meghan Cleary, host of Shoe Therapy on the Home Shopping Network, told The Journal Constitution.
“I think you're going to see more and more uber-luxury customizations of sneakers,” she added. “Sneakers have become such a mode of expression. Next year you'll probably be writing about a $100,000 pair of sneakers.”
