A proclamation planned to be awarded to Snoop Dogg by the City of San Francisco on Friday (October 27) for his charity efforts has reportedly been shut down by the Mayor’s office.
According to The San Francisco Chronicle, Snoop and Exotic Erotic Ball founder Perry Man donated a total of $92,000 to The Healing Circle Soul Support Group earlier this year.
The Healing Circle Soul Support Group is an organization made up of 230 Bay Area parents who have lost their children to homicide.
On Tuesday (October 23), Tinisch Hollins, a community outreach liaison for the San Francisco Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice, sent an e-mail to the public relations firm representing the Exotic Erotic Ball stating, “We would like to present both Snoop and Perry Mann with a proclamation on behalf of the City and County of San Francisco for their generosity and support for San Francisco families.”
The proclamations were to be handed out to Snoop and Mann by Hollins during the Exotic Erotic Ball Friday night, with all proceeds from the event going to The Healing Circle Soul Support Group.
But during a press conference on Wednesday (October 24), Nathan Ballard
STRONG>, a press secretary for Mayor Gavin Newsom, revealed that ‘no proclamations had been drawn up for Mann or Snoop and that none would be forthcoming.’
“We have no plans at present,” Ballard said.
Hollins, who was reportedly at the press conference, refused to answer questions about the proclamations and did not speak during the conference.
Mayor Newsom and his administration made headlines last year after handing out a proclamation to gay porn maker, Colt Studios. The administration even declared February 23rd “Colt Studio Day” in honor of the studio’s 40th anniversary .
The proclamation document bore Newsom's name and was handed out during Colt’s anniversary party by a representative of the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services .
Newsom's office, which hands out 2,000 proclamations each year, said the mayor was unaware of the Colt Studio proclamation and he decided to place ‘procedures to avoid any potentially controversial decrees’.
Ballad said he learnt about the proclamations for Snoop and Mann from the media and an interim director of the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice.
“In the wake of the Colt Studios controversy, procedures were put in place to prevent this from becoming a chronic problem,” Ballard said. “In this case, the procedures worked and there was no proclamation issued.”
This year Snoop has made headlines for his various brushes with the law. Mann’s annual Erotic Exotic Ball is infamous for its sex themed events.
Ironically, Mann has received proclamations from San Francisco in the past from Mayor Newsom and Mayor Willie Brown.
Ballard declined to specify why the proclamations were not being handed to Snoop or Mann.
Healing Circle co-founder Mattie Scott told The Chronicle she was disappointed that the proclamations wouldn't be forthcoming and that Hollins never spoke up about it.
“It's really hurtful when you're trying to do something positive and people like that don't show up,” Scott said. “It does bother me, it really does.”
