The hyped up December 4th battle between Ghostface and his Wu-Tang brethren will not be talking place after all.
Last week, Ghostface expressed his frustration with the Wu-Tang hierarchy for choosing to release the Wu album, 8 Diagrams, on the same date as his upcoming solo album titled Big Dough Rehab.
Ghost claimed he had already scheduled December 4th as the release date for Big Dough Rehab months before 8 Diagrams’ release date was pushed back to the same date.
He would also accuse Loud Records honcho Steve Rifkind of trying to halt the release of Big Dough Rehab.
According to Wu-Tang’s RZA, 8 Diagrams will now be dropping on December 11th, a week after Big Dough Rehab’s release. RZA revealed to MTV’s Mixtape Monday that the move to drop 8 Diagrams on December 4th was not intentional but was a result of the time it took to complete the project.
“I wasn't really conscious [Ghost] was dropping an album on December 4th, but
yesterday we moved our [group] record from the 4th to the 11th,” RZA explained. “We gave that spot to Ghostface ... because of how he felt....I had to make that call. Steve Rifkind also, he was getting bashed up by Ghost. So...we moved”
“We didn't have him move, we moved,” RZA continued. “I think that shows the kind of bigger men we could be. Ghost is my brother; [I] love him to death. But we're in this business, and it's hard to kind of discern what's right and what's wrong. ... But I will say that, when it comes to a Wu-Tang Clan album, I plan on making it a 60-, 90-day type of schedule. ... It turned out to be a 200-day schedule ... and I didn't want to wait until next year [to put out 8 Diagrams].”
“But Ghostface, we moved it to the 11th. You got that 4th,” RZA emphasized. “ Do your thing right then, double up [the] next week, make mad cream this year, family”.
On the same day that Big Dough Rehab hits stores, Ghostface will release a book titled The World According to Pretty Toney.
As reported earlier, the Wu-Tang tour which was slated to take place later this year was postponed to spring 2008.
Ghost is currently on the road as part of the “Adult Swim Tour” and will be joining Rakim and Brother Ali on the “Hip Hop Live Tour” next week. Check out the dates for tours here.
