A federal magistrate today (October 15) denied a bond request made by T.I. and his lawyers

As reported earlier, T.I. was arrested at a shopping center parking lot in midtown Atlanta on Saturday (October 13) while trying to purchase a machine gun and two silencers from his bodyguard.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, U.S. Magistrate Alan Baverman said the rapper must remain in custody until the beginning of his trial, which could be several months away.

Baverman scheduled a hearing for Friday (October 15) to determine if there was probable cause for T.I.’s arrest and to determine of he will qualify for bond before trial.

The rapper was reportedly led into a filled courtroom with his hands cuffed and his legs chained. He would make eye contact with family members and sat in front of them.

T.I. would answer "Yes, sir," and "Yes, your honor," when asked if he had been provided a copy of charges against him and whether he understood the charges.

The Atlanta bred rapper has been charged with two felonies--possession of three unregistered machine guns and two silencers, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.

Updated October 15 (4:28 pm): T.I.’s lawyers say they are looking to exonerate their client of all charges.

“We truly believe that Judge Baverman will be able to find that under the law a reasonable bond can be set, said Sadow.

If convicted on both charges, T.I. faces at least five years in prison.
