Ohio’s Mason High School has banned Soulja’s Boy hit single “Crank Dat” from being played at its homecoming dance this weekend.
According to WLWT, the song was banned after parents complained about the track containing derogatory lyrics towards women.
“There were quite a few inappropriate lyrics that were inappropriate to women, (and) that was what the parents concern was,” said Mason’s spokeswoman, Tracey Carson.
Ironically, the school’s newspaper had done an article teaching students to perform the ‘Crank Dat’ dance.
“Everyone's surprised they picked this song out of all the other songs they could've picked not to play,” Dori Steele, a Mason senior , told WLWT. “ They had a whole section on it and now they're not allowed to hear it at homecoming,”
School officials said students can still perform the dance but to a different song.
“Crank Dat” is currently the No. 1 single in the United States and Soulja Boy’s album, souljaboytellem.com, debuted at No.4 on The Billboard 200 this week.
