Kanye West is making chump change out of rival 50 Cent.
The preppy singer's CD was handily beating his Queens-born rapper foe's in online sales on several sites as both albums debuted yesterday.
West's Graduation, the latest installment in his college-themed trilogy, soared to the top of the charts on Amazon.com, while "Fitty's" landed at a disappointing No. 6.
With iTunes, West's new album was ranked as the second best seller of the day.
"This album is simply amazing," one customer posted. "Buy it now and forget about 50 Cent for a while."
On the same site, 50 Cent's Curtis CD - his real name is Curtis Jackson - landed in the ninth spot.
Fitty famously boasted he would stop making solo records if West beat him in first-week album sales.
Still, at local stores, the matchup appeared to be fairly even.
"They're pretty close," said Eclipse, the manager of Fat Beats in Manhattan. "I'd say we probably moved more Kanye than 50, but it's pretty neck-and-neck."
In related news , both 50 and Kanye appeared on BET's 106 & Park yesterday. Both rappers
performed tracks off their new albums to a packed audience. Adding to the excitement, president and
CEO Jay Z made a surprise visit to the set and closed out Kanye's performance with a few bars of Encore from The Black Album.
Both rappers strongly defended why their album is the best but in the end the clash ended amicably when each rival said this: "For him (50Cent) to break through and do what he does is great." "I think he is a very talented performer," said Kanye West.
50 Cent returned the compliment by saying, "He (Kanye West) is a brilliant producer and I think he's really changed the game."
