The low budget Barbershop movie starring rapper Ice Cube has beaten all newcomers this week and maintained its top spot at the US box office.

This week he was up against some tough competition with Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon's The Banger Club opening but failing to topple the rapper in ticket sales. Goldie managed to do better than her daughter Kate Hudson who had a very disappointing opening with "Four Feathers" at #4.

Ice Cube's Barbershop also stars R'n'B star Eve. He plays the owner of a Chicago Barbershop that becomes the hub of the community.

The success of Barbershop is a complete surprise to the producers who expected it to be no more than a cult movie for the black population. The low budget flick was made for $20m and made $39m in it's first 10 days.
