my review
despite what i said in my last comment, i've listened to the album and am actually impressed with it.
the intro has nothing much in it, the album could have done without it. it's just some studio background talk with miri saying 'my name is miri ben-ari, the hip hop violinist'
'we gonna win' is an awesome song. miri really shines on this track. this track holds her longest solo i've heard in a song yet.
'jump & spread out' is her current single, i'm sure you've all heard it. with that reggaeton beat we've all been hearing taking over the radio.
'fly away' one of my favorites. kanye, fab, and musiq flow very well together over a chill miri instrumental
'hold your head up high' - lil' mo sings about woman struggles over a pretty bouncy beat. she along with miri get pretty climatic during the song and lil mo really gets up there with her voice. very good considering i never really heard lil mo sing 'for real.' at the end of the track is like a track of its own, miri does a 45 second chill solo which flows nicely as an intro to sunshine.
'sunshine to the rain' - i'm sure you've heard this track as well. southern.
'lord of the strings' - very very short song and i wish it was longer, because miri's instrumental has a really somber and dark tone to it.
'out of the box' gets its name changed to 'chillin' in the key of e' when it hits the album. it's the instrumental track of the album. and as the name implies, you can really chill listening to this song. head bobbing beat as well.
'miss melody' - akon and miri switch off during the verses in a very 'question & answer' feel. akon is singing about miri in this track. at the end of this track is another 'should be its own track' miri solo. this song is not chill, it has a very rapid/speedy/allegro feel and miri goes up and down scales and hits many arpeggios throughout this song. this one's a lot longer two, hitting two minutes.
'new world symphony' - both miri's talent and kanye's production shines on this track. if you've seen the movie fantastic four, i believe this track was featured on the soundtrack. one's again, miri has another solo at the end that could deserve its own track. this one's very short though, only hitting about 25 seconds, and nothing to get too excited about.
'4 flat tires' - not one of my favorites.. i'm not a big fan of the featured artists (so? shoot me) i'd prefer this track to be instrumental
'she was just a friend' - other than the lil' mo track, this is another purely melodic track. the duet'd voices sound great over miri's strings. as the title implies, this song has a pretty sad or somber tone. miri ends the track with another solo, only about 12 seconds, as a very sad outro.
'i've been waiting on you' - you're ears should should out 'kanye!' when you first hear this track. consequence and john legend (especially) sound great on this track accompanying miri's instrumental. the end of the track is another 12 second miri solo. this one has a very dark and hurried sound and ends faster than it should.
'star spangled banner' - doug e. fresh and miri hit up this song in a way you've never heard done before. after the typical ad libs you've heard on our anthem, miri stirrs it up a bit and goes crazy shortly digressing from the traditional melody. all the while doug e. fresh beatboxes under her strings.
'jump & spread out (reggaeton remix)' - not much to say about this song.. kinda the same as the original but with some spanish verses. and i dont like reggaeton.
miri actually shines on this album more than i expected, and has quite a bit of solos to make up for any song where her instrumental is almost as busy as a simple sample. although i already have the album, expect to see me in line buying it on sept 20. this girl deserves support.
