So So Def/Arista recording artist Da Brat's debut single for the label, "I'm In Love Wit Chu," produced by L.T. Hutton, will be the first single in Arista Records' history to be released simultaneously as a commercial download in the online space and at traditional retail as a CD single, it was announced today by Antonio "L.A." Reid, President and CEO, Arista Records.
May 13th has been set as the launch date of "I'm In Love Wit Chu" featuring Cherish (Radio Edit), coupled with "World Premiere" featuring Jermaine Dupri, Q Da Kid & M.O.P. (Radio Mix) and "I'm In Love Wit Chu" (Instrumental version). The tracks will be available for commercial download on iTunes 4 (Apple's new service), Listen.com's Rhapsody, MusicNet on AOL , Pressplay and other approved sites on the Internet. At the same time, the tracks will be available for commercial download through Liquid Audio and eCast at traditional retail accounts including FYE, Circuit City, Best Buy, Tower and Musicland.
"Music needs to be available to consumers both online and at traditional retail," said Jordan Katz, Senior Vice President, Sales, Arista Records, concerning the company's
first foray into the cutting edge of digital distribution. "This simultaneous release in both arenas by platinum artist Da Brat, opens the doors for other hit artists in the Arista Records family."
"I'm In Love Wit Chu" is the first single from Da Brat's debut Arista album, Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz, which will arrive in stores on June 24th. One of the original hardcore hip-hop performers first signed to Dupri's So So Def label almost a decade ago, Da Brat comes to Arista on the strength of three best-selling albums: her RIAA platinum 1994 debut, Funkdafied (with "Funkdafied," "Fa All Y'All," and "Give It 2 You"); 1996's gold Anuthatantrum (with "Sittin' On Top Of the Word" and "Ghetto Love"); and 2000's gold Unrestricted (with "That's What I'm Lookin' For" and "What 'Chu Like").
