Master P today (October 3) responded to a trademark infringement lawsuit filed against him and Wal-Mart by Pepe Jeans London LLC.
Pepe Jeans sued Master P and Wal-Mart earlier this week claiming that both parties unlawfully used their logo, a stylized circled P, on the rap mogul's P. Miller clothing line.
Master P re-launched the P. Miller clothing line exclusively through Wal-Mart this summer and lowered it's prices to make it affordable.
In a statement issued Friday by Master P, the rap mogul claims that he legally registered the 'P logo' in April 2003. Pepe claimed they began using the logo in June 2003. Master P also claims he was targeted by Pepe because of his affiliation with Walmart.
"I went to the website of PepeJeans.com and couldn't find a circled-P anywhere, on their clothing, or the brand advertising within the site," Master P said via the statement. " I'm the future of affordable fashion and big brands will always hate me, but they shouldn't throw stones if they live in a glass house!"
"I make clothes for underprivile
ged and underserved families. P. Miller designs is about diversity. We cater to the African-American and Latino customer. I'm doing something positive for the community and I'm giving back," he continued. "What are they doing? Hating? I thought this kind of thing only happened in the rap game. I put out a charitable rap album last year, made no money on it, tried to send a message to the kids about taking profanity out of their music, and because it came through Wal-Mart I was targeted with a lawsuit."
Master P claims he plans to sue Pepe Jeans and its retailers.
"I am filing a countersuit against Nitin, Arun, and Milan Shah and Pepe Jeans London, LLC for tortious interference with my business and future business with Wal-Mart. And since they saw fit to go after my retailer, I will return the favor and file suit against several of their retailers like Macy's, Dr. Jay's, Nordstrom, and Eastbay," Master P said.
