Australian immigration authorities have officially allowed Snoop Dogg to tour the country this fall after reviewing his conduct and accepting a reference from Oscar winning actor Russell Crowe (Gladiator, American Gangster).
As reported earlier, Snoop was banned from Australia in 2007 because of his criminal record.
Last month, immigration officials lifted the ban but their decision was met with resistance from family and victim support groups who wanted the rapper's ban reinstated.
The immigration officials would claim they needed more time to make an official decision and according to The Associated Press, Snoop's good conduct on the road and a reference from Australian born actor Russell Crowe helped the rapper gain a visa today (September 12).
Crowe wrote a letter to the immigration officials saying that Snoop would do some youth charity work if he was allowed into the country.
“We took into account all relevant factors and, on balance, the department decided to grant the visa,” an immigrat
ion spokesman said.
Snoop will begin his Australian tour next month and will be joined by Ice Cube and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Below are the scheduled dates and venues:
October 29th- Brisbane Entertainment Centre
October 31st -Sydney Acer Arena
November 2 -Melbourne Rod Laver Arena
November 5 -Adelaide Entertainment Centre
November 7 -Perth Burswood Dome
