Rapper/actor Mos Def continues to broaden his clout in the movie industry.
Daily Variety reports that Mos Def’s film company, Garden Grown Entertainment, has linked up with two other film companies to produce a film based on the first desegregated hotel and casino in Las Vegas, The Moulin Rogue.
The movie, titled The Fabulous Moulin Rouge, will center on a fictional character (played by Mos Def) that rises from a debt collector for the mob to a manager of the casino.
In the mid-50's, The Moulin Rogue drew stars like Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. before it mysteriously closed down six months after it opened.
The other two companies involved in the project are Exwaze (a Dubai based company) and Hughes Capital (a Hollywood based company). The companies plan to shoot the movie in Dubai next year.
Gambling is illegal in Dubai but the companies will build a replica of The Moulin Rogue.
