Memphis authorities revealed today (August 12) that soul legend Isaac Hayes died from a stroke.
According to The Associated Press, the authorities revealed that Hayes' doctor had been treating the singer for various illnesses that could have led to the stroke including hypertension.
As reported earlier, Hayes died Sunday afternoon (August 10) in his Memphis home. The singer's wife found him lying unconscious next to a running treadmill in their basement.
Paramedics rushed the singer to hospital but their attempts to revive him failed. Hayes was 65 years old.
The Grammy award winning singer and composer gained international acclaim for creating the theme for the 70's flick Shaft. Hayes scored various other films and voiced the South Park character Chef.
Hayes’ music has been sampled by various rappers including Tupac Shakur ("Me Against the World") and Jay-Z ("Can I Live").
