Soul legend Isaac Hayes died today afternoon (August 10) in his hometown of Memphis.
According to The Associated Press, Hayes' wife found the crooner lying unconscious next to a running treadmill in their home's basement.
Paramedics rushed the singer to hospital but their attempts to revive him failed. Hayes was 65 years old and the cause of his death is still unknown.
The Grammy award winning singer and composer gained international acclaim for creating the theme for the 70's flick Shaft. Hayes scored various other films and voiced the South Park character Chef.
Hayes’ music has been sampled by various rappers including Tupac Shakur ("Me Against the World") and Jay-Z ("Can I Live").
