New Jersey authorities have defended a plainsclothed trooper who drew a gun on Jim Jones and his entourage earlier this month saying that that the trooper was trying to regain control of the altercation between his fellow officers and the rapper's crew.
As reported earlier, Jim Jones and his entourage tangled with police after the rapper's performance at New York's 'Summer Jam' concert on June 1st.
Authorities claimed that the altercation sparked after Charles Chandler, Jones' bodyguard, grabbed a trooper’s head and face with both hands because he was taking pictures of the rapper and his entourage.
Video of the incident hit the internet this week and it showed a plainclothes trooper pulling a gun on Jones and his entourage. [Watch The Video]
During the dispute, Jones can be heard saying that the officer did not identify himself and making references to the Sean Bell case.
Capt. Al Della Fave stressed to The Record of Bergen County on Thursday (June 12) that the trooper identified himself and that the arrest of Jones' bodyguard wasn’t shown in the video.
“Contrary to what was stated in the video clip, state police iden
tified themselves very early on in the altercation,” Della Fave said. “And everyone involved in the altercation was well-aware of their status as New Jersey State Troopers.”
“The weapon was pulled to try to bring order to the rest of the crowd and to keep them from advancing [toward the troopers],” he added.
Chandler, who would be taken into custody , was released on $15,000 bail on the same day. He is slated to return to court soon to face charges from the incident.
