Miami based rapper Grandaddy Souf is reportedly planning to file a lawsuit against a local club where he claims he was assaulted by 10 bouncers last year.
According to The Miami Herald, Souf (born Anson Watts), claims he was at Club Mansion on August 13 2007 after attending the Ozone Magazine Awards when he was approached by a bouncer asking him for identification.
Souf, who had no identification with him at the time, claims he tried to explain to the bouncer who he was but the bouncer struck him. Souf says he reacted by pushing the bouncer but he was suddenly surrounded by 10 bouncers who kicked, punched and stomped him.
Souf claims the bouncers choked him unconscious, stripped him of his clothing and tossed him outside the club.
A passerby would take a picture of the unconscious rapper. The picture, which showed a bloody and lifeless Souf with his pants to his ankles, was posted on various websites.
“I think it was barbaric what they did to me,” Watts told The Herald Friday (April 25). “It was inhumane, just to dump me on the sidewalk, with my pants down, underwear showing.'
Souf would be taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for abrasions. The rapper also claims hi
s $10,000 watch was missing when he regained consciousness.
Vanessa Menkes, a spokesperson for Club Mansion, called Souf's lawsuit “opportunistic”. Club Mansion is currently facing five other lawsuits filed by patrons who claim to have been beaten by the club’s bouncers.
“The only information Mansion has about this August 2007 incident comes from Souf's PR person who said Souf was the aggressor in an altercation with fellow patrons,” Menkes said. “Mansion can only imagine this is an opportunistic attempt almost one year later to capitalize on the publicity surrounding Mansion to benefit his own career.”
Phaedra C. Parks, Souf's lawyer , who will be filing the rapper's lawsuit on his behalf next week, said she waited until now to file suit because she wanted to make sure everything was in line for trial.
Grandaddy Souf released his debut album titled Chasing My Dream last year via SRC/Universal Records.
