If you can’t beat them, join them. Comedian/actor Bill Cosby, who has publicly revealed his disdain for rap music's content, is pushing his cause by releasing a hip hop album titled Cosby Narratives Vol. 1: State of Emergency next month.
According to The Associated Press, the album will not feature Cosby rapping but will feature various guest rappers. The album will contain no profanity and the songs will have positive subject matters including the value of education and self-esteem.
“The album is the opposite of what I think is the profanity for no particular reason, the misogyny for no particular reason,” Cosby told The Associated Press. “It really looks at the frustration and the anger that a young man may have.”
Cosby put the album together with his longtime musical collaborator Bill "Spaceman" Patterson.
“[Cosby's] always been involved in music and he was there for the first generation of spoken word,” said Patterson. “He has always understood rap's potential, but he was appalled by the foul language and the misogyny — the way people used a medium that could be used to elevate people, to open their eyes and provoke thought.”
Cosby Narratives Vol. 1: State of Emergency hits stor
