Atlanta rapper T.I. pleaded guilty today (March 27) to three weapons charges as part of a plea agreement and faces up to 12 months behind bars.

As reported earlier, T.I. was arrested last October for allegedly trying to purchase a machine gun and two silencers from his bodyguard.

According to The Atlanta Journal Constitution, T.I. plead guilty Thursday  to two counts of illegal possession of machine guns and silencers, and one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

As part of the agreement, T.I. must perform at least 1,000 hours of community service and will then begin a one-year and a day prison sentence.  He was also was fined $100,000.

Since his sentence is longer than one year, T.I. will be eligible to earn 15 % off for good behavior.  He is scheduled to be sentenced on March 27, 2009.

If T.I. doesn’t abide by the plea agreement, he faces up to over 3 years behind bars.

“While I'm not looking forward to being incarcerated, I have a long road of redemption to travel,” T.I.  told reporters outside the Atlanta federal courthouse Thursday.  “I am dedicated and committed to that.”
