The judge presiding over Ja Rule's gun possession case said today (February 27) that she is ‘troubled’ with the fact that the rapper posted thousands of dollars in bail for his co-defendants.
As reported earlier, Ja Rule along with Dennis Cherry and Mohamed Gamal were arrested and charged with criminal weapons possession after a loaded 40-caliber semiautomatic was found in a car they were traveling in.
According to New York Newsday, State Supreme Court Justice Micki Scherer strongly opposed the rapper's ability to make bail for his associates Wednesday because she feels ‘it puts [Ja] in a position of perhaps controlling the outcome of the case’
Ja Rule's lawyer, Stacey Richman, said the defense will come up with separate bail packages for a Cherry and Gamal.
Prosecutors claim DNA evidence was found on the gun. Scherer said she will rule next month whether Gamal and Cherry should give DNA samples.
