A former DJ and Terror Squad member, Street Runner is considered to be the next big thing in hip-hop production. Working with artists such as Lil Wayne, Juelz Santana, and LL Cool J, Street Runner is slowly but surely becoming the “it” producer.

His credits teamed with his reputation for an unmatched work ethic, are gaining Street Runner the acclaim normally saved for mega stars.

In the game for years, his work is finally starting to pay off and we should expect to see no signs of slowing down. Sixshot.com sat down with Street Runner to discuss music from his hometown, Terror Squad, and working with Lil Wayne.

Sup man, what's good?

I'm chillin' man, just been working on this music shit.

So you're from Miami, did you ever think your town would get this big?

I didn't think the South would ever get this big but we killing it right now. I always thought that I was gonna have to move outta here to get it popping in this music biz but now I'm right in the mix of it all. Shit is crazy!

When did you get into production?

Street Runner: I was a DJ in the mid 90s, I got my first drum machine in '98 and I been making beats every since.

So are you official ly down with Terror Squad?

I been down with TS since 2002, I signed with TS in 2003.I'm no longer under contract with them but that’s the family. I got nothing but love for Joe Crack, he gave me my 1st hit record (Take Me Home).

People are saying that your work ethic is crazy, is that important in the hip-hop game?

Hell yea!!! You gotta go in! This is a real competitive business. As soon as u stop or take a break somebody else is gonna be getting ready to take your spot. I stay in the studio every week working on new tracks for different projects.

You worked with a lot of artists, any particular favorites?

Lil Wayne is the best. He understands my beats, he knows how to flip my concepts and he’s really fast. Junior Reid is classic! I always love making new music with him. Fat Joe brings out the best in me. He really puts the pressure on me to give him my best.

What's the creative process like when you work with Lil Wayne?

I usually go see him at the studio and he will play some new tracks he’s working on. I always got beats ready for him whenever I go to check him. He takes a few listens to the beats and then he puts up the ones that he’s going to work on next. Once he finishes the track then I go back to work on the beat and make sure that its extra crazy. That’s basically it.

Run The Streets Volume 1 is out, how is the response you're getting?

Well that album was only distributed overseas. It’s all good though it’s out there, its just hard to find. Everybody who got it loved it. It’s a classic. I just did a mixtape with DJ L-Gee We Run The Streets which is a best of Street Runner mixtape that you can download for free online.

What do you think you're bringing to the table that other producers don't?

I'm just trying to do me and be consistant. I'm not in it for the quick thing. I'm trying to do Dr. Dre numbers.

Who are some of your musical influences?

I like any soul or rock from the late '60s to early '80s. That type of music influences me the most. As for producers DJ Premier, Timberland and Swizz Beatz are always dope to me.

As a producer you have a real good ear for talent, who do you think is the next best thing in hip-hop?

My artist O.Z. is about to get it poppin! Also there is an artist out here named P.M that’s dumb nice. Lil Wayne got a few dudes Mack Mayne and Dizzy.

You're putting in work with Papoose on the long awaited Nacirema Dream. How is that coming along?

I just did one record for that... I know my track is crazy other then that I can't really call it.

You have a real diverse style, how important is that in today's hip-hop market?

It's very important. My shit is like a brand name. When you see a track is produced by SR on an album, before you even hear it I want you to know its fire. Its kind of like Gucci, Prada and LV. Yu know that shit is fly shit!

What projects do you have coming up that we can check for?

Lil Wayne Tha Carter III , Fat Joe The Elephant In The Room, Jamie Foxx's album, LL Cool J's album, Sheek Louch, Junior Reid, Young Chris, Ludacris, Lil Wayne & Juelz Santana I Can't Feel My Face and hopefully many many more
