The streets is where the knowledge comes from and that’s seems to be the motto SKE lives by. If you are not familiar with Street Knowledge Entertainment it’s something always shouted by the indie label’s artist and co-founder Trel Mack.
Trel Mack as of right now has one of the hottest buzzes online being seen on many online publications which even totaled him thousands of daily MySpace plays. Hailiing from Philly, Trel Mack has a style coming from the 215 unlike his fellow hip-hop peers in the city like Beanie Sigel and Cassidy.
Trel Mack is from the street, but wants to come in the game with a different style and approach. Working with his business partner and best friend Quinton Hatfield also known as Q The Question who is also a hip-hop journalist and the other co-founder of SKE, they look forward to take-over the music biz by storm. In this exclusive interview for Sixshot.com, Trel Mack lets you know the man behind the music, if he’s a pretty boy, and why SKE will be the next dynasty in hip-hop.
How is life going for Trel Mack so far?
Right now it’s going great, everybody is showing our team love right now. Q The Question holding it down on the interviews, his new m
ixtape is out for free on datpiff.com Q The Question So What’s The Answer. He’s killing them with that and got some reviews on it. My album “Mack of The Year” out for free on my new site trelmackmusic.com, everybody is loving the singles. It’s feeling great right now man.
Tell fans something about yourself that people don’t know?
People don’t know that I’m not just a rapper I’m a business man too. Everybody around me is about business man. I’m still doing the school thing, but right now I’m focused on business. I’m trying to open up a few things to bring us closer to the music industry and that’s basically the plan right now.
SKE was started in the summer of ’06, how much progress you felt you have made to this point right now?
It feel like we just reached a whole level ahead of ourselves. We made so much progress it’s crazy. It was all through the grind and hustle that we put into this. A lot of people say “We got this, we got that”, but they never do it. SKE we got a blueprint and we build it from the ground up. A lot of people is saying now “I remember when SKE first started, now they all-over the place”. I’m like “Yeah that’s what it’s about”.
Talk about your team?
Yo man I love my team, my team is crazy. I would rather have no other team like Q The Question he’s a big part of SKE holding it down with the interviews. He’s a manager, publicist, journalist, he has a mixtape out already and plus more to come. We got DJ Trell Shells, he does a lot of promotion for us and has our fan base crazy right now in the U.K. We got Brandon who is new to SKE on the promotions tip and he really holds it down. Everyday he’s out there trying to get the name out. Plus he got the thing going for the shows, C.H. is holding it down getting it in as usual. Trel Mack is doing his thing on the music tip grinding trying to get the SKE name out there.
Within the past few months you been getting thousands of MySpace plays, it was times when in one day you reached as low as 72,000 to 100,000. How you feel when people say you used a special program to get that done?
You know what “Haters Hate”, they look at your progress and it’s like “Damn man, how is he doing this”? What they don’t know is that I got a huge fan base overseas, were not only in the United States. We are on like ten radio stations overseas, DJ’s are spinning my joints in the club, we got interviews up online it’s just crazy. In the United States were also holding it down. People are seeing that stuff, everybody want to hate on Trel Mack. It’s cool though they stuck on yesterday I’m in the future you know.
In hip-hop once you break into the music industry they gave you an image, would you say you have the pretty boy image?
Nah it’s just the Trel Mack image you know, I’m just doing me. It’s just me being me, they may say Trel Mack is a pretty boy, but that’s what the girls like. When you come into the game image is important and not to have a big head about it, but if a girl tell me I’m fine then I’m fine. Your image can sell you records alone, a lot of people don’t understand that.
In hip-hop you had a lot of independent labels that blew up, Cash Money, Roc-A-Fella, G-Unit, Bad Boy, etc. What it will take for SKE to get to the level of those labels?
The grind, the dedication, you gotta want it. You just can’t want it you have to go get it. A lot of people like I said look at it like “I wanna be at the awards”, but what are you doing about it? Your just standing still, my team we grind everyday trying to get the name out there and that’s what it’s all about. People got to notice you, doing shows people have to see you, people got to know who you represent. Everywhere I go I try to represent SKE man, at my last show I had to bring my whole team on stage. People are going to see the SKE team and what were about. We are the next dynasty in hip-hop so holla at ya boy.
You have the new album “Mack of The Year” right now out online for free, why you decide to do that?
Because that’s important, it’s more important to give people thing in the beginning. In the long run they will be like “Yo I remember Trel Mack gave away this free album, it’s
Free music not only that it’s hot music”. They gonna love that they got hit songs on a CD for free, it’s crazy right now and people showing me mad love. I know I’m a get much respect in the end so that’s why I did it man. Shout out to everybody that showed me love so far.
If you had to pick what is your favorite song on the “Mack of The Year”?
I don’t really have a favorite song, but the one that gets me the most is “Lock Me Up”. I feel like that song is like an anthem almost man it gives me mad energy. I like “Money Getta” too, big shout out to Spontane for the production. Everybody is feeling the “Mack of the Year” single, because it’s a different vibe. The “Mack of The Year” is for free so listen right now on trelmackmusic.com.
How it felt hearing word on the street that you smashed a couple shows in Philly?
Aw man it felt good, I didn’t do a show in a long time. I had mad energy at the shows and it felt mad good to go on stage and show them I also got a stage presence. Everybody doesn’t have a stage presence. People that go on stage either got a hot rap or hot song, but they don’t have a stage presence. The crowd has to feel you and that’s when they decide if they like you or not is at a show. You can have good songs, but if you don’t have no energy on stage they not gonna like it. That’s what I did, I went out there did my thing loving the crowd, and kept it moving.
Say your offered a major and SKE is independent, what terms you look forward to if you sign with a major?
Man listen I want it all. The terms I looking for is to bring out at least what we do best. The money is cool, but make sure we can make a career out of it. I don’t want to be in the game for a few seconds then gone the next minute. I’m tryna venture into things to make a way for my team, I’m gonna do whatever helps us. Your gonna give us our publishing, that is what really brings the money in. If we can’t have most of our publishing and can’t workout some type of deal for that then there is no point. Were gonna avoid problems getting into big court cases and things like that.

Nobody is getting over on SKE!
Nobody is getting over on SKE, I’m telling these dudes we do not chase labels. Why chase a label, we are doing our thing and people gonna notice us man.
Talk about the knowledge within SKE?
[Laughs] Q The Question man nobody got no more knowledge than him man. Q breaks down life in a science. Without the music he breaks down life into a science and that’s what’s really helping SKE. As far as the business we all on our business, but Q shows and tells us things like “We should think about it this way” and it all makes since. We then do our own research and be like “Yo that make since man”. For us to have knowledge in our label is very important. That’s gonna help us get through those barricades in this industry. Not having knowledge of what you want to do will hurt you in the long run and for us to have that is great. Big shout-out to Q with the knowledge, he’s always in those books. [laughs].
They say the streets is where the knowledge come from.
Hell yeah the streets really is where the knowledge comes from. Like Q said ain’t really no dumb people in the hood. It’s all about how you do certain things so do it the smart way.
You have some hit songs and once you make your big break in the game who are some artist you would like to work with?
I would like to work with everybody, I really would like to work with Cassidy. I think we would make something hot for Philly. All the Philly cats in the game that’s doing it right now, Beans, everybody. I would definitely do a song with Chris Brown, Omarion, Mario, everybody.
What is out right now from SKE?
We got so much stuff going on right now it’s crazy. Quinton Hatfield AKA Q The Question’s new mixtape is fire, he also has on there an exclusive interview with Buffie The Body and Uncle Murda on there which is crazy. That’s out right now Q The Question “So What’s The Answer” you can listen and download for free on datpiff.com. I keep telling people they keep coming out with the same format of mixtapes. This mixtape Q has out right now is different from everybody’s. We also got my album “Mack of the Year” the promotional album out for free on trelmackmusic.com. A new mixtape is coming out soon hosted by DJ Trell Shells and Brandon called “Lock and Loaded” giving exposure to unsigned artists on the rise. Me and Crystyle is also working on a CD together.
Where does Trel Mack see himself five years from now in the game?
I don’t having nothing else to see, but me on top. I can’t see it no other way and I’m not gonna have it no other way. I’m a keep grinding until I make it there. Five years from now SKE is gonna be on top. We gonna be like Bad Boy, Death Row, G-Unit, for us to make so much progress in so little time that shows more time will mean more progress. What we might do in five it might take somebody fifteen and that’s because of the dedication and grind we have. Trel Mack is gonna be on time before his time and so as my team. I’m make sure my team gets there, Q gonna make sure we get there, Trell Shellls, Brandon we all gonna make sure we get there and that’s what it’s about.
