North Carolina seems to be a breeding ground for talent lately and Disturbing Tha Peace signee, Small World, is leading the pack. Although he grew up without a father, Small World was given the type of guidance every young boy needs by his grandmother and mother. While he is humble, confidence is not something Small World is lacking, as he will tell you that he and his crew are the best in North Carolina.

His rise through the hip-hop ranks is an interesting one. He has worked with Wyclef Jean and was given a helping hand by his friend, Free, formerly of 106 &Park. Most MC’s would be happy signing any deal but Small World wasn’t. He knew he wanted to go to Def Jam.
Besides being a musical phenom, Small World focuses as much on his business as he does on his raps. With a group and a label of the same name, Norfclk, Small World is sure to set the hip-hop world, both in and outside of North Carolina ablaze.
What's good man? How's everything?
I'm good bro. Thanks, I can't complain.
Your pop passed away when you were real young. What was it like being raised by you mom and your grandmother?
It was normal. Though I felt the void, you can't mis
s what you can't remember.
I gotta know, how did you get the name Small World?
The name was given to me. It was said to have come from BeBe's Kids the movie really. I was a playful kid. It now means, I'm never too far away from my fans. I'm always there in the music so it's a 'Small World'.
What led you toward music?
Music got into me. It was given as a gift from God, that’s what I like to think. After my pops passed, my grandma prayed over me a lot. I think she and her prayers had a lot, if not everything to do with it. It was just a miracle like. Almost kind of scary even. God is good.
Tell us about your grind before you got signed. What were you doing to get noticed as an artist?
It wasn't hard to notice me as a kid or a teen, either or. My crew and I shined. Music was something I kept to myself because I was really good at it. I thought it brought too much attention to me because of how good I was. I didn't want to be the dude everybody asked to rip shit every time. I guess you could say I got noticed by simply chillin'. Me being distant built an outstanding aura around me. Plus I was super humble. That made me lots of friends. I was looked up to anyway so noticed, I was.
Tell us about the group Norfclk.
Norfclk is North Carolina. Me, Brolic, Perfect Harmany, and our close friends from NC are Norfclk because I feel we are the true definition and best representation of our State. That's why I decided to name the Indy label Norfclk Entertainment. It's a great way to capitalize off of the very best talent, which is us, NC has to offer.
When did you form Norfclk Entertainment?
Well, it started as an idea and thrives on ideas until this day. It's built on trust and has morals. That's all I'll say at the moment. I'll let the movement speak for it's self.
Tell us about your local hit 'Souf Born'. That was a big step for you; it garnered a lot of attention.
'Souf Born' was made of frustration and pure arrogance. We know we're the best so we said it loud on 'Souf Born'. Norfclk is the total package. There was none like us before us from NC so we stated our claim firmly on 'Souf Born'. The streets bit the bait and now we have a local classic. Thank God.
You worked with Wyclef for a while, who is large in the music business. What was that experience like and why did you guys part ways?
It was a great experience. Wyclef is a super musical genius. I learned how hard I needed to work to become who I believe myself to be. Peace to Clef! I parted ways with Clef because he couldn't provide me with what I needed at the time. I needed a lot (Laughs).
When you were working with Wyclef you did a lot of networking and met a lot of people. Is there any advice you received that really stands out?
I'm a loyal dude so I didn't network. I'm super real. That has hurt me in the past but it lands me on top every time. What goes around comes. Living life is the biggest lesson. I'm my own advice.

You flew out to New York when it was time to work with Wyclef. Was it a big change from North Carolina?
Nah. NC is a beast. Ask a NY native who visits. We ain't got shit but us.
Is the music scene in NC out there close knit or is it more of a competition between artists?
It hasn't been in the past but my crew stays closer than the rest. We're all uniting and starting an up rise though so, be scared. It's really about to pop real soon.
You also had a relationship with Free from 106 & Park. Is she still a friend today?
Yeah, Free and I are like siblings for life. She's the greatest.
Def Jam and DTP are huge. How did you get with them?
Free introduced me to Chaka Zulu and the rest was history. He asked me what I wanted to do, I in turn asked Norfclk what they wanted, and I got us all signed to group and solo deals just like that. There's that loyalty again.
How does it feel to be part of such an important label?
Feels like I planted a seed. Now it's time to build branches on this ever-growing tree called Norfclk.
DTP is building a strong team. They have you, Serius Jones, Willy Northpole. How far can DTP go in your opinion?
As far as I take them (laughs)! You ain't know? Nah, actually, as far as we take us. We all feel both ways about the situation.
Is Ludacris a good boss?
Luda is a good person period. Honestly, I think he's his own boss more so than mine. Chaka Zulu and I have a better connection on a personal level and business/boss wise. Luda and I connect through the music more. Overall, he does his thing obviously.
What do you want to accomplish in the rap game?
I want to change the world. What's crazy is, I really think I can do it (Laughs)! I guess we'll be seeing this lifetime. Stay tuned.
What projects can we expect to see from you in the future?
You can expect my debut, World Premiere, to be a classic. The World Premiere Prequel mixtape, hosted by Don Cannon can be expected as well. Be sure to look for Brolic D's album, Street Monument coming soon. Also, expect me to embarrass your favorite rappers on features and jack joints.
Anything you'd like to say to your fans at Sixshot.Com? I really, really love yall! Holla at me when you see me in the streets or on myspace.com/smallworldpremiere!!!!! PEACE and BLESSINGS. -BIGsmallWORLD
