To say Termanology is like a throwback to the glory days isn’t really fair because he might, in fact, be the future. In a time when hooks are selling albums, Termanology is making the kind of music that made hip-hop what it is today.

His lyrical prowess is unparallel and even though he didn’t grow up in a major city, he found a way to make his name ring bells all throughout the industry. This Big Pun inspired Latino MC is a problem and everybody knows it. Sixshot.com recently sat down with Termanology to discuss everything from his daughter, to his cash flow.

So you grew up in Lawrence, Mass. Tell us what it’s like over there and what the hip-hop scence is like.

Yup, Lawrence Mass, it’s like 45 minutes from Boston. It’s cool, you know, there’s a lot of talented people out there doin’ their thing.

Krumbsnatcha is from Lawrence, Scientific is also from Lawrence mass too.I mean basically, it was just me , Krumbsnatcha and Scientific in Law town. In Boston, it was the Bulldogs, Made Men and a couple of other crews. There's been a few different artists that have been doing their thing like Akrobatik.

We had our own scene and shit and it was cool but I decided to move outta there because I was there my whole life and it gets to the point where everybody knows your name at home so you gotta travel the world and that’s kind of where I'm at right now.

That was my next question. You moved to the Bronx?

I’m in the BX. Its good man, its fun out here, I’m having a lot of fun. Out here it’s parties every week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, it’s not like back home, where its more of a weekend thing, its an everyday thing. That’s how it is.

So your Hispanic right?

Yeah I’m Puerto Rican and white. My mother is White and my father is Puerto Rican.

So tell us, are you going to be the next big Latino rapper?

I'd like to think so. I don’t wanna put no categories on it. I face a lot of racism coming in the game, like a lot of the labels are like asking me if I’m gonna do Reggaeton or ask me if I know Fat Joe or shit like that. No disrespect, because that’s someone who represents our people, but why can’t I come up in the game and do my own thing, why? Because I’m Spanish? you know what I mean? It’s a pride thing, I mean I got good people behind me and I’m happy to be where I’m.

Primo tracks are hard to get, like pulling teeth, and you got 5. Give me the whole story on that.

Well he’s very selective man; he’s not in this for the dough. He doesn’t give a fuck about money. When somebody doesn’t care about money what can you offer them? The dude worked with Nas, Biggie, and Jay. Every time I seen him I was grinding and I kept stepping to him like lemme get a beat. I seen him from 2003 to 2006 and I always asked him for a beat. And he’d be like yeah, yeah, yeah (Laughs).

Finally, Static Selektah, who is a good friend of mine, he's in my corner. He reached out to Primo and they called me on the phone and they asked me if I liked a beat. I liked the beat, they emailed the track. I went to headquarters and after that it was easy because I had a relationship with him. Even I get it, i'll be at a show and 20 cats will want to do a track but there’s not enough time in the day. It is what it is now I got 4 or 5 tracks with him. I’m supposed to do a track next month with Bun B and Primo.

With your talent and a co-sign from Primo, how is it that you’re not signed to a major?

You know, I sat around with cats in the industry, had meetings, I went to all your favorite labels. They said I’m the future, the truth, but we’ll holla, they all said the same thing. I think it’s the same thing that Kanye went through when he played "Jesus Walks" and they ain't sign him.  Every label is waiting to see what the next man does.

We had some big offers but we didn’t want to jump into any deal because I like to say crazy shit and pick my beats. I don’t like people telling me who I’m gonna rap with and who’s gonna be on my album. We starting doing it independently and hey, we'll do it from there. I'm in it for the love. Don’t get me wrong,  i'd love to be rich but if they wanna stunt, let 'em stunt.

So how’s the show money and all that right now? You eating good?

I'm good; I’m living the dream baby. As a kid all I wanted to be be a rapper. I'd tell my fam and my niggas and they said I better have a plan b if it doesn’t work out.

There's only two ways for me, either i'd be a rapper or i'd die trying.

I knew at 14 school wasn’t for me, I never gave a fuck about it. I’m good I’m getting feature money every week, show money. I ain’t ballin' but I’m paying the rent off rap and that’s all I could ever ask for.

You have a daughter. Does she drive you to succeed?

It does and one other thing it does it helps you mature faster. When I first came in the game, the content is different from now because I’m not the same person, it chills you out. Before I had a kid I did wild crazy shit, getting into all that other shit that street kids get into. As I get older, I had a baby and I’m like, if I go to jail for 5 years, that’s 5 years she won't see me. You stop living for yourself. And live for the kid.

People loved the 50 Bodies mixtape. What were you really trying to do when you put that out?

I just wanted to show cats I was mad nice in case you neva heard of me. It was 50 tracks over a 2-year period. Tony Touch did "50 MC’s", fuck it, I'll do my own shit, 50 verses.

Tony cosigned it and Statik too and it was good man, I got good reviews, people want me to do another one. I got so many tracks it’s easy, but I’m tryna focus on my album right now.

The Hood Politics series was crazy too; you’re up to like volume 5. Are those more like albums?

Volume 5 is in stores now, it's doing good. I’m proud of it, its overseas and here in America. They're original material, they're like albums. I try to put out as much as I can for the fans. Some people tell me not to put out so much because people will get sick of me. But I don’t just put out anything I do. I put out quality shit.

You must record constantly.

Yeah I record all the time, every single week I’m always doing shit. I got 1400 songs, true story.

The Source 'Unsigned Hype' was a real coveted thing in hip-hop. How did it feel when you got that?

It was huge for me, I think it came a little late because I seen Eminem get it, I seen Capone and Nore get it, and Saigon gets it, and this was as I was coming up through my life. When they got it, I was also rapping and I was like, when am I gonna get it? I was reading The Source since March 1995 with Slick Rick on the cover. I got every one. I’m a fan.

Before XXL it was The Source. When I got it I was like damn, cool at least I did that. I was in there for 10 months straight pretty much breaking the record for an unsigned artist. After that I got XXL's equivalent to 'Unsigned Hype. I’m happy the magazines like me and like my music.

Why do you think Eminem could make it but an ethnic looking dude or a Latino has a harder time?

I don’t know man, its like it has something to do with the fact that there aren’t many successful artist who aren’t black, basically its Eminem and Paul Wall in the last decade that were white.

Basically it was Pun and Pitbull and it stops there. If you look at a decade and you see only 5 artists who did well, you might not wanna take a chance on me. It's all good.

Seeing that I’m not black it makes me stick out more in a crowd. I think it’s a good thing, where some people think it’s a bad thing. It’s always good to stick out.

If they sleep, they sleep. There are white boys and Hispanics coming out. Hip-Hop is at its most multi-racial state and I’m happy that all that racism shit can stop.

You were heavily influenced by Pun. What was it about him?

Everything, his lyrics, me I’m a lyricist first, before you get into any racial shit I’m a lyricist. He had the illest lyrics. As I grow older and I look back I didn’t realize how ill it was.

In 98 I was still young with Capital Punishment. I think of what he represented, he was us, he was Boricua. Those two things put together, he had odds against him and he was the nastiest. I feel the same way sometimes.

Is he the best ever to you? I mean he could be. What he did in that short time. He’s the best.

Who could mess with Pun lyrically?

Nobody man, nobody, but there’s people who are the best at what they do. Jay Z is the best with the longevity, 10 albums all play all dope. Or u could say Nas, he destroyed shit in 94, he made people wanna be like him. You could say Rakim. You could say Kool G Rap. You could say Eminem; he’s one of the most lyrical ever. It’s all up to you.

You worked with a lot of big artists. How were those experiences?

Which ones yo? theres so many...I got a whole album with Lil' Fame, Physiology. He's on his production side and we were like fuck it, I handle the rhymes and he handles the beats, he’s spittin on 4 or 5 tracks, its coming crazy.

So you have distribution and you work your independent situation?

I’m bouncing around. I just do little different indie deals and see how they pan out. Little contracts here and there. No official deal yet. I’m aight. I don’t really care. People are so hung up on TV, and what they read about, the big deal that whoever got, you gonna do this and this. I’m not on it like that. Make music, put it out, promote it, and do the next project.

A lot of dudes in the music industry don’t want to hit any singles, just home runs. It seems like they’re waiting for someone to hand them a deal, how do you feel about that?

Fuck that, you know what I'm sayin? A lot of dudes wait for this big dream to happen. Its to the point where they're in their mid 20's thinking I’m gonna be 30 and I got nothing.

I’m not shitting on dudes like that. That could be my niggas even. I got a crew, there’s nine of us. I try to give them knowledge. When I come from NYC, I tell them I learned this and that and if u listen to me you’ll be years ahead of these motherfuckers. This is what you need in the music industry. I got the knowledge. I try to teach them. Rappers are misguided. They hope that somebody will hear their demo.

Who are you feeling in the new school of rappers?

I like Saigon, Joell Ortiz, Tru Life, Papoose. I don’t know man, there’s not a lot of cats I like, I like old school cats more. I’m happier that Jay-Z is still out and Styles P is the still the greatest, Kool G Rap still killing it. The new school cats doin' they thing. I’m worried about myself. I listen to myself because I'm my own worst critic.

What big projects do you have coming up?

New album with Lil' Fame, if you’re an M.O.P fan, if you're a Termanology fan check it out because it’s coming crazy, it's looking real ugly. The Cameo King is comin' out. It's basically 20 tracks with my favorite cameos. The Styles P and Q-Tip shit, the Tony Sunshine shit, all that shit, Royce da 5’9, I got mils of collabos. I just put that out for the people and I got the debut album coming Feb 08.

Do you know what label that’s going to drop under yet?

I got a couple deals on the table major and indie. I'm looking toward indie; I don’t like long contracts where you could get shelved or some shit. I'd rather sign a contract where I'll be out in 3 months. They only got 3 moths to put you out. I'd rather do that.

I got my producers. I call them the starting 7, it's Showbiz, Pete Rock, Alchemist, Primo, Buckwild, Large Professor, and who am I missing yo? I’m missing one but they’re all the shit to me all legends all platinum. The beats are gonna be crazy. It’s on me to knock it out the park.

Anything you’d like to say to the SixShot fans reading this?

Thank you for anybody who picks up my mixtapes or checks me on the Internet. You could check me at http://www.myspace.com/therealtermanology. Hit me up, if you wanna do a song with me we could set it up with management. If you want me to do a show, I’ll come to you hood.
