Back in 1993, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony came onto the Hip-Hop scene with one of the most unique lyrical styles to date. The quartet from Cleveland Ohio graced every Hip-Hop fans eardrums with speedy flows, and singsong melodies.

One of the most distinctive facts about the group; is they’re the last ones to ever do collaborations with The Notorious B.I.G., 2 Pac, Big Pun, and Eazy-E all before their tragic deaths. But even at the height of their success, the group that consisted of;  Krayzie Bone, Layzie Bone, Wish Bone, and Bizzy Bone went through their own trials and tribulations.

After long time disagreements, and contract disputes, the group permanently severed ties with Bizzy Bone back in 2005. But before that, he already had experienced life in the solo arena with albums like; Heaven’z Movie, The Gift, and Alpha and Omega.

Now he returns in 2007 with; A Song For You. SixShot.com had a chance to sit down with the Hip-Hop veteran as he discussed his relevance in music, the transition to fulltime solo artist, and turning his negative situations into positive music.

How did you first get into Hip-Hop?

Well I started break dancing back in the early days, back in the projects. I had always liked music whe n I was growing up, then I got an opportunity to put out my first record when I was 14. And basically from that, I’ve been into music ever since.

What can people expect to hear from this album that they haven’t heard from you on your previous releases?

This album right here, has more of a spiritual vibe to it than my other releases. It has a whole new different vibe to it. Plus I have some guest appearances also. That was something that was never really a privilege of mine before.

So what was the reason behind you not having guest appearances before?

It was basically just the fact of me working with other people before; and things of that nature.

Your album is called A Song For You. Any meaning behind the title?

No I didn’t have any really reason behind it, I just felt like that was an appropriate title to go with.

How do you think you’ve managed to stay relevant this long in Hip-Hop?

To be honest, I think it’s really because of the people out there. They really appreciate the music that I’m doing, and what I’m still putting out there.

When you first started your solo career, was the transition hard since you came from a group setting?

No it wasn’t hard for me at all, I pretty much handled everything with ease.

Did you ever imagine your career would have lasted this long when you first started?

To be honest, I really didn’t. I didn’t think I’d still be around for this long.

So how do you see yourself in the next few years? Still on the music side? Or more on the executive side?

I’m not too sure where I’ll end up, only Allah knows.

With all your personal troubles, how have you been able to still focus on music?

Basically just through all my spirituality. That’s been the key for me.

What’s the biggest misconception about Bizzy Bone?

To be honest, I really don’t know what people think of me. Like I’ve heard a whole bunch of rumors and things like that; but nothing really face-to-face. From what I can tell, everyone shows me respect.

Was there any particular reason why you waited so long release another record?

Nah, there really wasn’t any reason at all. Actually I was still putting out records, but this particular record right here is just through a major label.

Have you ever thought about returning to group work? Or are you content with your career thus far?

Right now, I’m pretty content. I’m cool man. Everything is going on really good, and I can’t complain with anything.
