Sixshot: What’s the reason for you performing in Switzerland. Just promo or are you having a new album out soon? Sadat X: The reason for us being here is just that somebody booked the show, so we came. But we’re also working on an album, so it was also kind of our own intention.
Sixshot: Are you still performing all together a lot in the States? Sadat X: When we got something out we do, but right now we’re just trying to work an finish our new joint.
Sixshot: Do you already know when the next album is going to be released? Sadat X: We’re about to finish it up, but it’s gonna be on delay. I don’t know exactly when it’s gonna come out but you’ll hear something soon!
Sixshot: Let’s speak about “Foundation”, your last album that dropped two year ago. All satisfied with the outcome of that? Sadat X: Yeah, I think it was good for us coming back out again, but you always think you can do better.
Sixshot: How was it coming back together after a couple of year? Sadat X: It wasn’t really like we was coming back together because we always did stuff together, different litt
le projects and stuff like that, but I guess that’ was the first time that all of us was back together at one time.
Sixshot: Being a legendary new school band was there any type of special pressure on you coming back together after some years? Sadat X: No, we just wanted to make something that people can identify with, but there wasn’t no pressure. We only put pressure on yourselves, you know, we do what we do, so we just did it and came out with it. There was no pressure per se, it’s not like being a new artist, we’ve already been out before so we came out again.
Sixshot: What was the reason for you, the four original members of the band coming back together? Sadat X: I guess it kinda was time. A lot of people was asking for it. And then, if the business was straighter, it could probably have been even two years earlier, but it took that long for the whole, actual business to get straight. You know, everybody had to get through with their contractual ties and all that. But it was good, it was time, so we did it.
Sixshot: Your known as a band with political issues, that has something to say, makes some intelligent music. What do you think about others just rapping about blunts, bitches and cash? Grand Puba: I think that’s cool. You have to balance it out ‘cause ,you know, too much knowledge will make you crazy. It’s like you can study but you have to break away from that as well. And that’s cool ‘cause everybody likes that as long as you keep the balance. We like those things, too, but there’s enough people talking about that. So let’s create that balance, let’s give ‘em this and let them talk about that.
Sixshot: You guys dropped your first exactly ten years ago. What has changed in these ten years in rap music? Sadat X: It’s more commercial. More people have access to it throughout the world. Probably ten years ago y’all probably ain’t had no show out here like this, really. So it’s worldwide now, you know, it’s spread out now with TV. Then you got the Internet and you got computers and stuff like that so it can globally reach now. It’s more accessible and it’s more money involved.
Sixshot: You came out ten years ago. Where’s Brand Nubian gonna be in ten years? Sadat X: Well, you know, we might be performing we might not, but we’ll be involved in it someway. Because you love the culture, you love the music, so you always stay around with it. I don’t know what we be doing in ten, but we’ll be doing something in favor of the music. Grand Puba: In ten years? That’s a long time, you know, but I’ll probably be doing something in the music industry, but more in executive or production or something like that. But for now, we just gonna keep doing what we’re doing, keep making albums, keep elevating, moving to other fields, all kind of stuff.
Sixshot: Aight, thanks a lot.
