Imagine being a count number in America’s cruel and unsympathetic judicial system? If you can’t tap into that vision, ask former bars-of-iron-once-committed-to-the system star Akon about that experience. Imagine locking down the Rhythm and Blues circuit slash rap music game with true to life tales. Imagine ripping radios and clubs worldwide with the smash single Locked Up featuring D-Block’s finest Styles P?

style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">Sixshot.com: A year ago Screw (of Block Royal) told me about Akon. A year later Akon is here. Who are you?
Akon: Akon.
Sixshot.com: I know that, but who is the Akon that fans hear buzzing through their radios and clubs?
Chant: Locked up, they won’t let me out!
Akon: Nah, for real that’s me Akon.
Sixshot.com: So tell me a little about Akon.
Akon: Pretty much I ain’t just an artist. I am more of a producer-songwriter.
Sixshot.com: What separates you from other artists?
Akon: I really don’t compare myself to other artists because they make music for them, and to them it’s beautiful.
Sixshot.com: There are a lot of artists who are trying to pull off songs that are related to their real life experiences. Why did Locked Up featuring Styles P. score big?
Akon: Who do you know that ain’t never been locked up?
Sixshot.com: What I am saying is…there are tons of people with the same exact stories. How did you get that attention? What made Akon so special?
Akon: I guess it is part of the graphical side of the lyrical content. When people hear it and they actually been locked up they kind of know. The rappers are constantly talking about running this and clapping that, but there are certain languages and certain things you can say…it is how you say it explain it.
They know whether or not you’ve been there, or if you really didn’t. There are just certain things you just don’t know if you never been there. I don’t think any other R&B act will be able to put out a record like that because they wouldn’t be believable.
Sixshot.com: Now, what does your album contain? What is the mixture of your album? What elements make it a strong album?
Akon: My life really! I feel like if I’ve been through it, a million other people are going through the same thing right now.
Sixshot.com: What is your favorite song of the album?
Akon: That’s like asking a mother who is her favorite child. How can I say what I like, or what has been the best moment. All of these songs are based on a moment that I have gone through.
Sixshot:com: What song touches you the most then?
Akon: The song that probably touches me the most is probably Locked Up. Locked Up was the turning point of my life. I know everything is meant to be, like what’s going to happen is going to happen, but I think you can control your destiny as far as how you go about it, and I didn’t want to go out just like any ordinary thug on the street.
Sixshot.com: What producers are you working with on this album? Is it just you and your team?
Akon: I did the whole record, the whole album. Produced the whole album, wrote the whole album. Like I said, most of these records just happened through experiences I go through, then I go home and write about it. So there weren’t any other producers on it, or any other writers on it.
Sixshot.com: Now what’s the next single you putting out?
Akon- The next single is Ghetto. It just might change, but that’s it for now.
