Shawty Lo, what you been working on, I heard you was shooting a video yesterday?
Yeah, I just did a video with Slim from 112, me and Yung Joc was out there with him yesterday.
So talk about it how did it go along?
It went great man, people came out and they supported it. Slim you know he’s been working hard and he deserve it. Me and Yung Joc we came out to support it and show love. It’s a nice song it’s called “So Fly”.
What it was like to work with Slim and Yung Joc?
It was crazy man, everybody was down to earth. Everybody was so down to earth and humble.
So you telling me Shawty Lo was always a 112 fan?
Yeah, I always been a 112 fans since “Cupid” man.
So what was your favorite 112 record?
Cupid!
You had a pretty good album that was successful Units In The City which had some hits “Dey Know”, “Foolish”, and what was the other one?
“Dunn Dun”?
Yeah, “Dunn Dun” what it was like to have all the success recently and the fans appreciating your music?
I feel like it’s a blessing from God, you know I’m a new artist to the game. Just hearing songs word for word when I do shows it feels real good. I guess they know my story is real and
everything I talk about is real.
Why you think as an artist it was important for you to talk about all the realness that happened in your life?
Basically that’s all I know, I like to be real with people man. I feel like if I was being something else I was being fake.
With your experiences growing up in Bankhead, do you think everything you went through growing up made you stronger and who you are today?
Yeah, because I lived with my grandmother and once she passed I was on my own. My mother wasn’t there and my father wasn’t there. My grandmother passed in ’93 and left me and my sister in the streets. It was a jungle out there so I turned a negative into a positive which is what I’m doing right now.
Shawty, what happened to your crew D4L, Fabo and all of them?
My crew Stuntman and Mook B we all left here together. My business partner made Fabo feel like he was in a group and tried to take Fabo as a solo artists The rest of us we in it together and it ain’t no bad blood between Fabo, but he crossed his group out. He tried to be a solo artist and that what happened. Some kind of way God blessed me to keep working. I wasn’t even no rapper I’m the CEO behind D4L.
But how you maintain being an artist and a CEO for your label D4L Records?
I got my team and work together to make sure everything is run right.
So what makes Shawty Lo a businessman, a good one at that?
My work ethic is A 100%, that what makes me.
The last project Units In The City had hits as we talked before. Do you think the next project will be better?
I hope so, I’m a keep my fingers crossed. I’m damn sure hope so.
Any other ventures, movies, etc?
Oh yeah, I got two movie situations coming. I got my book coming, I got my DVD in the street Shawty Lo The Real Story and check out the myspace.com/shawtylo.
The DVD showed your life being from the Westside of Bankhead, how you feel on fans reaction to that?
I guess they like the real, I guess they want to know what’s happening. I got to give the real, I can’t give that fake.
With you being somebody that goes to that block, is it still happening?
They show me love man, that’s where I’m from. That’s where I’m on my way to now while I’m on the phone with you, I’m on my way to Bankhead.
Two sides must be two sides?
