It wasn’t too long ago that Florida was known for college football and alligators and Miami was known for bikini clad women and hundred thousand dollar cars. Back then; hip-hop wasn’t exactly high on the list of things that were poppin’ in the Sunshine state. Today however, it’s a different story with Florida sitting at the top of the hip-hop heap.

Between Rick Ross dropping number one albums, DJ Khaled doing his thing, and Flo-Rida breaking records every other week, it’s pretty safe to say that Florida has hip-hop on lock. Like any big city with a hip-hop scene, Florida has its MC who is waiting in the wings and about to blow. There it happens to be Poe Boy artist Brisco.

Always a name that rings bells in the state Brisco is positioned to be the next superstar to take the reigns especially since he has the backing of some of Florida’s biggest starts. With his album Street Medicine getting ready to hit the shelves soon,  Sixshot.com caught up with Brisco to discuss his beef with Yung Berg, working with Lil’ Wayne, and why he’s the best rapper since Tupac Shakur.

So tell us man, how did you get your name hot out there in Florida? I know there’s a lot of competition.

The music really just speaks f or itself most of the time man. I just stay grindin’, you know? I’m always on the grind no matter what. I dibble and dabble with the best there is in Miami like Rick Ross. It’s just a grind man and the music speaks for itself. The music is definitely exceptional and that’s the most important thing.

How did you get with Poe Boy?

I been with Poe Boy like forever man. I been with them for a real long time and I always had that connection with them because of my cousin.

Poe Boy has had a lot of success. Do you ever feel the pressure to live up to those high expectations?

Not at all really because I had my hands in that success, you know what I’m sayin’? I had a lot to do with that success from being involved. I was always a part of it. I know I’m good and like I said before the music will speak for itself.

I gotta ask man because a lot of people are real curious about what’s going on lately. What’s the situation with Yung Berg?

Well he’s just a little guy and he just opened his mouth at the wrong time. Me being an artist myself I got a real good understanding of what other artists are thinking subliminally, you know what I’m sayin’? They could say things subliminal but I know what he’s really thinking and what he really means.

He looks at the charts and sees Flo-Rida on top and doin’ his thing so for some reason he thinks he could open his mouth about Flo-Rida. Flo-Rida is like my brother so that made me real angry. I did records with homeboy and he knows me so I don’t understand why he would comment on a dude who is like my brother.

Do you think he made those comments with the intention of offending people?

You know what it’s sounding like? It’s sounding like this is something he’s talked about with his people before. You know when you’re with your boys and you’re talking about the next camp. You’re talking slick and it’s like you not supposed to do that at all, for real. That’s my brother and we don’t need nobody making all kinda jokes and all that.

There ain’t no need for none of that. Let’s just keep it real pretty, you know what I’m sayin’? Keep it how you live it. If you ain’t street like that don’t comment on the next man especially when it got nothing to do with you, you know?

So how was your relationship with him before this whole incident?

I met him through Lil Wayne. He was a pretty cool cat, you know what I’m sayin’? But at that time when I did the record with him he was just talking too much, you know? I’m the type of cat to fight, Flo-Rida doesn’t fight and he knows that so it is what it is.

Florida is the spot right now with Rick Ross, Flo-Rida, it’s just poppin’. Did you ever see it being this big?

I kinda knew man, I kinda felt it. I’m really not tryna be arrogant but I kinda knew it was gonna happen. It’s like Miami and Florida are getting their just due right now so it’s a good thing for everybody. People are getting to see how we make music and how we do it over here and they might not have gotten that opportunity before, you know?

What’s good with your album? I heard you’re working on it as we speak.

Yeah I’m currently working on it right now. It’s called Street Medicine. It’s just so hard and just so classic. I want you to just print that in bold letters for me, classic. This is a very classic album and I spent my whole life working on this album. I’m gonna pour it all out on this album and gear up for the next album. That’s how gangsta I’m gonna keep it. Street Medicine is dropping so make sure you keep your eyes open for that.

So you feel like it’s gonna get that classic rating from the fans?

Yeah man I truly believe that. I think that once the first person hears this album, it’s over. It’s gonna be like an epidemic. This album is so serious.

Since Florida has grown so much in terms of its profile on the hip-hop scene have you noticed a lot more artists popping up?

Yeah but you know I think that’s just a natural reaction to the situation. They see the money, the glamour, and all that but they don’t really get to see the inside of it, the inside to the whole game. Dudes tryna break into the game is gonna be here forever regardless if they’re hot or not.

I know you and Flo-Rida are like family and you’re label mates. Were you surprised when he was breaking records and all that?

Not really because if you know Flo-Rida you know he’s a real humble dude and he deserves all the blessings he gets, you know what I’m sayin’? When he was there breaking records I was there too standing behind him a hundred percent.

Aight man, tell us everything we could check for from Brisco.

My Gangsta Grillz is dropping next week and that’s gonna be like the biggest movement you ever seen in your life. It’s a hot mixtape. Street Medicine is coming. We working with Lil Wayne getting Tha Carter III done. Rick Ross and Flo-Rida are on tour now. We like family man. Everybody washes each other’s hands and we all get money at the same time. That’s what I’m doing right now. That’s how it’s always been.

Alright Brisco, anything you wanna say to all your fans out there?

Everybody needs to get ready because I’m probably the best rapper since Tupac Shakur.
