With a million DJ’s in the game right now, a truly skilled turntablist is always in demand. That’s why DJ Scream is slowly becoming a household name.

Inspired to DJ by the movie Juice as a young buck, he hasn’t turned back. From touring with D4L and Crime Mob on a national level to his Only The Crunk Survive mixtape series, DJ Sscream has done it all.

Named one of The Source Magazine's top 5 DJ’s, DJ Scream is running the game with his new brand of mixtapes, Heavy in the Streets as well as a show on satellite radio. Sixshot.com sat down with DJ Scream to discuss  his career and the state of the hip-hop game.

What's good man, how's life?

Everything is good. I’m blessed homie. Can't complain.

So tell us, how'd you get into spinning?

I was influenced by some other DJ's around my way. Also some of the big dogs on TV. Not to mention the movie Juice. That was very inspiring to me. All of that made me acquire DJ'ing as a hobby first.

You got real skills on the turntables; do you feel some new cats are lacking that?

Yeah they are. At the end of the day, talent prevails. I understand why some DJ's are embraced more and last longer than other s. The talent and skill can take you a long way.

Tell us about Only the Crunk Survive.

It’s done. My current series and brand is Heavy In The Streets. I have retired Only The Crunk Survive I left that alone while it was still on top.

Tell us about Heavy in The Streets.

It’s my brand. It represents street music to the fullest. It’s the  people’s mixtape. When everybody in the streets is talking about you or  your music, then you are Heavy In The Streets. That's how you get on.  People always ask me how to get on a H.I.T.S mixtape because it’s so  powerful. That's how. Conquer the people first.

How do you feel about people who talk down on Southern hip-hop?

To each is own. I represent the Southern community to the fullest. The success of Southern music speaks for itself. No need for me to get defensive. At the same time. I'm not on all that BS. Good music is good music no matter where it comes from.

With so many DJ's out there, how do you manage to stand out?

I just do me. It’s an expression. So I do whatever I feel like the people will enjoy and gratify me all the same.

You've been doing this for a while, when did you start to get national attention?

'06 was the year when things really started to take off. Touring with D4L and Crime Mob really helped me to spread out and expose myself more.

As a veteran, how do you feel about hip-hop today?

I feel like its still growing. It has its ups and downs like the  lifespan of everything. I love where we are at honestly. A lot of good  albums came out this year. A lot of good records came out this year.

You went to college right; did you do a lot of DJ'ing there?

Hell yeah. Probably more DJ'ing thanstudying (Laughs).

How do you like being on the radio?

I have a show on XM 66 Raw on satellite radio. I love it with a  passion. I don't share the same passion for regular radio. It’s boring to  me.

What is your formula for rocking a party?

Hits. Creativity. Paying close attention to the people.

You were Montell Jordan's DJ, what was that experience like?

Wow. It was great man. My entrance into the tour game. It was a good experience wouldn't trade it for anything.

Are you still with the Hittmenn DJ's?

Yeah that's fam. I'm real close wit a lot of them.

Do you have a favorite artist to work with?

Shawty Lo is family. So any project with him turns out classic. But I thoroughly have enjoyed at least 90% of the artists I have worked with.

Ozone nominated you for best mixtape cd, was that an honor?

Yeah. First real nomination. Also I'm Source Magazine's Top 5 DJ of the year. Feels good to be embraced for hard work.

How do you feel about what the FEDS did to Drama?

It was a misfortune and a mistake on they behalf from what I understand. He did gain a lot from it though. So with the good comes the bad and vice versa.

What projects do you have coming up that we can check for?

Man, I'm gonna keep 'em under wraps. I'm going in '08. That's all I can say. Make sure you peep my MySpace which is myspace.com/4045405000 and my XM radio show on XM 66 Raw every Thursday at 11am Eastern.

I appreciate all the support look for '08 to be another groundbreaking  year for DJ Scream and the Hoodrich Fam!
