Everyone knows that if you want to make it big in the entertainment industry, then California has to be on your checklist. From modeling to acting, to singing, it’s not difficult for a person to get in where they fit in. For the wanna-be starlets coming off that Greyhound bus, in search of their dreams, with their eyes wide open, holding two suit cases full of everything they own, the road to stardom can be a complicated one. It’s always tough for an outsider to enter an unknown environment and thrive instantly. But the road for California natives may not be as bumpy. Reason being is that they’re familiar with the area, know where to go, and most importantly, they already have a roof over their heads.

One of the hometown beauties from the Golden State making name for herself in the modeling world is 21-year-old Elyse Saucedo. This Mexican bombshell has a double major in Entertainment Law and Sociology started modeling a little over a year ago, and looks to have a bright future ahead of her. With her Asian-like features and signature crazy hair, the resident of West Covina, California is bound to have a lot more guys taking Spanish lessons just to keep up with her.

So what’s good? What’s going on?

I’m good, how are you?

I’m chilling. So Where are you originally from?

I’m from West Covina, California.

Is that Northern Cali? Or Southern Cali?

It’s in Southern California.

How was it like growing up there?

Um. It was good, and really laid back. I didn’t grow up in the ‘hood or anything like that. It’s kind of like the suburbs. [Laughing]

[Laughs] I hear you. So what’s your ethnic background?

I’m Mexican.

That’s cool. Do you speak the language? Or are you a fronter? [Laughs]

[Laughs] I speak it a little bit, but not all that much though.

So when did you first get into modeling?

Just like a year ago, it really hasn’t been that long. Right now I’m still trying to get stuff started, and get some stuff going.

What made you try it?

Well it was always in the back of my mind, and people would always tell me; “Hey why don’t you try it?” Then one of my friends started his business for modeling, and that’s how I got going.

That’s cool. I also heard that you’re a fan of Hyphy Music.

[Laughing] Yeah.

For those that don’t understand, could you explain just what Hyphy is?

Hyphy really originates from Northern California, and it’s like a way of life for them. Because that type of music has always been up there, and it’s just starting to make its way down here now. So it’s not really new, its just crazy. [Laughing]

What do you think makes you stand out more than the other models out there today?

Um. Well I would say I don’t look like the average Mexican girl. A lot of people think I’m actually mixed with Asian or Black and White, so I would say that. And because of my crazy hair and my crazy features.

What’s one of the toughest obstacles you’ve faced in the modeling industry so far?

Nothing really too tough so far, I’ve worked with really good people who have been opening doors for me. So I haven’t really had a lot of tough obstacles just yet.

You’re also in school for entertainment law.

Yeah. That and Sociology.

Okay then. [Laughs] So are those things that you’ve always been interested in?

Yeah all throughout high school I always wanted to do that. So if the modeling doesn’t work out, it’s definitely going to be one of those.

So are you a nerd? [Laughs]

Yeah, I’m kind of a nerd! [Laughing]

Do you eat healthy? Or do you eat a lot of fast food?

I try to eat healthy, and once in a while. I might go and splurge just a little bit, but not really that much. I don’t have a bunch of fatty foods around in my house. I have a lot of organic stuff.

What can a guy do to get your attention?

They can just talk to me. I don’t like guys that just yell at me, and scream things like; “Hey shawty!” [Laughs] They’re going to actually have to come up to me, and ask me my name and actually have a conversation with me, you know. They have to be interested in me, not just trying to holler at me.

So that’s what can really turn you off about a guy?

Yeah. Like if I’m walking down the street and a guy is yelling at me, I’m not going to respond to that.

Are you a gym person? Do you exercise a lot to stay in shape?

Um. I try to, whenever I get a chance, but I’m kind of busy. But I do try to keep it up.

How are you like outside of work? Are you a homebody? Or a party girl?

I like to go out, but when I’m at home, I’m just lazy. [Laughing] I just bum-around at home and watch TV and chill, nothing too spectacular. Or I’m always on the computer; I’m sort of a nerd. I really am. [Laughs] But I’m pretty much laid back.
