Remy Ma is slated to make a court appearance this week in relation to her shooting case.

As reported earlier, Remy Ma is accused of shooting Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the abdomen inside a car after they both left a Manhattan nightspot in July.

The two women got into a dispute after Remy accused Barnes-Joseph of stealing $2000 from her purse.

Remy was initially charged with attempted murder but prosecutors would drop the charges to assault after evidence revealed that the gun went off accidentally. The rapper is also accused of intimidating the boyfriend of a witness.

Remy has been charged with first-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and tampering with a witness. She has denied all charges.  If  the Bronx rapper is convicted, she faces up to 25 years behind bars.

Gory details about the shooting were revealed by The Village Voice.  The newsweekly claims that the bullet which went through Barnes-Joseph ‘damaged her intestines and exited through her buttocks’

To date, Barnes-Joseph has undergone three surgeries and has refused to talk about the incident.

“Once my client testifies, the jury will be convinced that [Makeda] played no part in the shooting, that she didn't take anyone's money,” said Lauren Raysor, Barnes-Joseph’s attorney.  “Remy got into my client's car with a loaded firearm and felt [Makeda] took some money, and [Makeda] didn't.  My client was shot.”

Raysor also made a point to highlight that Remy has pulled guns out on other people in the past and has sparked altercations.

“I'm not clear as to why no one realizes this didn't happen in a vacuum,” he said.

Despite all the bad press Remy has received, her lawyer, Ivan Fischer, believes his client will get a fair trial.

“So far, her being a rapper has not affected the case,” Fisher said. “There are people who have a high regard for rap and her music.”

Unfortunately, promoters aren’t quick to align themselves with the rapper because of all of the police presence she now attracts.

“During her guest performance with 50 Cent at Rum Jungle in Jamaica, Queens [in September], plainclothes cops were on the stage with a video camera,” a source who was backstage at the event told The Village Voice.  “I mean, they weren't trying to hide it, either.”

Remy, who left Fat Joe’s Terror Squad in 2006, dropped a mixtape (Shesus Khryst) and an independent album (The BX Files) this year.  She is currently searching for a record deal for her latest album titled PunisHER.
