Dozens of Biggie look-a-likes and wanna-bes showed up at New York’s Meatpacking District yesterday (October 6) to audition for the role of Notorious B.I.G in the rapper’s upcoming biopic.
Fox Searchlight Pictures , who will produce the untitled Biggie movie , launched an open casting call in August to find a lead for the film.
According to The New York Daily News, a good number of the Biggie wanna-bes all came out draped in outfits that rapper was well known for wearing including COOGI sweaters , Kangol hats and Versace glasses.
“I've got the swagger. I've lived the life,” 300 pound “Tank” Nitti of Crown Heights told the Daily News. “I know what he went through and I think it would be all natural [for me to play him].”
One wanna-be, 21-year-old Kenneth Washington Jr. , has been imitating Biggie since his demise.
“He's been doing this since Biggie passed away,” said Washington's father, Kenneth Washington Sr., 53, of Bed-Stuy. “It's been going on for years”.
Some wanna-be’s bared no resemblance to Biggie but claimed they
came out in tribute of the slain rapper.
“I feel blessed just to be here,” said Andre Lewis of Newark . “If I get a chance to be part of Biggie's legacy - can't no words describe that.”
Various celebrities have tried out for the role to play Biggie. Beanie Sigel revealed last week that he auditioned to play the late rapper.
Biggie was shot and killed on March 1997 after leaving a music industry party in Los Angeles. His murder still remains unsolved.
