Veteran west coast rap superstar Too Short is set to release his team The UP All Nite Crew's new digital release Set Up Shop on October 16, 2007.
A follow up to 2006's Gangsters & Strippers compilation, Set Up Shop will introduce the world to artists that $hort feels has what it takes to have long careers of their own. The difference here is that unlike its predecessor, Set Up Shop features artists who are self-made, only needing the proper push to get noticed.
Being that Set Up Shop was recorded in $hort's second home, Atlanta, it was only right that he showcased artists like Lil Red and Young Bay who hail from the Southern Rap capital.
Lil Red, signed to Up All Nite through the group Murda Mob is the lone female rapper on the compilation, but her song "You Know What It Iz," lets it be know that she can hang with the fellas. 21-year old Young Bay, formerly known as Baby D from $hort's Dangerous Crew days, comes in as a baby-faced 10-year veteran and it shows on his track, "Ride With Ya Boy,"and midwest rappers Ice Mizzle and Lay It Down.
Hip-Hop has become the voice of youth in America and th
e world, and Set Up Shop represents the musical movement that influences the current crop of today's hottest Hip-Hop chart toppers. Too Short hit the music scene in the early 80's with his unique style of rap, Too Short was instrumental in exposing the raw sounds of West Coast rap with songs that set the standard for Hip-Hop to the masses.
"The whole object of Set Up Shop is me getting back to my roots," says $hort. "I live and die by the funk but I also roll with the trends. At the end of the day, I'm a music man and a music fan."
