Remy Ma was accused yesterday of trying to silence a witness to her alleged Meatpacking District shooting, but she managed to stay out of jail because prosecutors dropped the original charges from attempted murder to assault.
Police originally had said the Bronx-bred rapper shot a friend intentionally, but the new charge indicates the gun may have gone off accidentally.
Authorities said the witness intimidation occurred after Remy Ma, whose real name is Remy Smith, ran into a witness' boyfriend at a Bronx nightclub several weeks after the shooting.
"Your girlfriend is changing her number on me," the Grammy-nominated performer allegedly barked. "People are talking on the stand."
The boyfriend and a pal were later stared down by Remy Ma's entourage and badly beaten, according to Manhattan prosecutors, who are handling both cases.
Assistant District Attorney Michael McIntosh asked for Remy Ma to be held without bail on witness-tampering and gang-assault charges.
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Rena Uviller kept Remy Ma's bail at $250,000, pending a court date next Thursday.
Remy Ma, 27, pleaded not guilty to first-degree assault charges, rather than the attempted murder count she originally had faced.
