Rick Ross is about to release a new album, Rise to Power, but it's not via his current label homes, Def Jam and Slip-N-Slide. Instead, the album of refreshed early material is dropping Sept. 18 via Texas independent, Suave House records.
Ross was signed to Suave House Records from 2000-2002.
Ross' "Get That Bread" featuring Cinque and Big Duke from Boyz N Da Hood is the first single from Rise to Power and will be released this week.
BOYZ R BACK IN TOWN
The Grammy Award-winning U.S. vocal group Boyz II Men said its first major label release in five years will be out this fall.
American Idol judge and music industry icon Randy Jackson produced the Decca CD, Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA, which is set to drop Nov. 13.
"The mixture of the classic Motown sound and today's R&B soul is what makes this album truly unique," Jackson said in a s
tatement.
Highlights on the disc include Motown favorites such as, "Just My Imagination," "Ain't Nothin' Like The Real Thing," "Mercy Mercy Me," "Tracks of My Tears" and "Got to Be There."
Also included will be a cappella versions of Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon in the Sky" and the group’s own, "End of the Road."
"We wanted to pay tribute to an era that had such a major influence on our sound," said Boyz member Shawn Stockman.
"Everything on this record was recorded with all live instruments and working with Randy we were able to capture the feel, vibe and energy of these classic songs," said Wanya Morris.
"This was pure fun," added Nate Morris.
SPIDER SMOKE
G-Unit’s Spider Loc will make a guest appearance on the popular Showtime series, Weeds.
Loc will play as a character named 2-Strikes on the Monday, September 24 episode. The G-Unit Crip will also release his upcoming album, West Kept Secret: The Prequel, on September 11 through RBR/KOCH Records.
BATTLE OF THE HOT BOYZ
B.G. and fellow Hot Boys alum Lil' Wayne are both set to release new records in time for Christmas. B.G.'s Too Hood To Be Hollywood is due Dec. 4, and Lil' Wayne's Tha Carter III, will be out Dec. 18.
Mannie Fresh, Polow Da Don, Khao, Lil C, Scott Storch, Don Vito, Mr. Rogers, Bass Heavy and Nitti are among the producers that may make the Too Hood To Be Hollywood cut, and "I Hustle" featuring Young Jeezy and produced by the Justice League is an early standout.

Jay-Z and Timbaland are among defendants named in a lawsuit filed in the Los Angeles Federal Court for allegedly sampling a 1957 song, “Khosara, Khosara” performed by Egyptian star Abdel-Halim Hafez, in their 1999 released “Big Pimpin’” off Jay’s Vol. 3: Life and Times of S. Carter.
