In-laws of British singer Amy Winehouse have asked people to stop buying the singer's records to help wean her off drugs.

The parents of Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, said both the "Rehab" singer and their son are drug addicts but are in denial, NME.com said.

The singer earlier in August canceled appearances in Britain and postponed the start of her North American tour. Her record label cited "severe exhaustion," despite published reports she accidentally overdosed and was seeking treatment.

"Georgette and I both believe that they are drug addicts, and they don't believe they are," Giles Fielder-Civil said during a BBC radio broadcast Tuesday. "I think they believe they are recreational users of drugs and they are in control but it seems to Georgette and I that this isn't the case."

His wife said she though they needed medical attention "before one of them, if not both of them, eventually will die."

Giles Fielder-Civil asked Winehouse's fans to send a message "that her addiction and her behavior aren't acceptable."

"Perhaps it is time to stop buying (Winehouse's) records," he said.
