P.O.D., Kid Rock, Ciara, Ice Cube, and R. Kelly are among the stars lining up to guest on Lil Jon’s upcoming hip-hop/rock hybrid, Crunk Rock.
“I worked with the guitar player from P.O.D., Marcos, a punk band called Whole Wheat Bread from Jacksonville, Florida, Kid Rock and a few others,” rapper/producer Jon tells Billboard.com. “My sh*t is real rock guitars with my beats, not keyboard guitars with ghetto beats. It’s gonna be a little different from what you hear right now, but I think everyone will love it.”
The half rock, half hip-hop set will also feature Remy Ma, Lil Wayne, The Game, Gucci Mane, Fabo from D4L and Three Six Mafia. Jon, long known for incorporating rock into his music, hopes to release the album this year, but a date has yet to be confirmed.
As far as other rap groups using rock elements in their music recently, Jon says he’s pleased that they can open their minds up to rock. “I been doing crunk rock for the past two years,” he says. “I did a street record with Three Six Mafia in October where I say ‘party like a rockstar, f*ck like a porn star.’ Now everybody wants to be a rockstar ‘cause it’s cool,” he explains. “One think I like is people are opening [our] ears to the music, ‘cause [we] tend to be closed-minded to sh*t we don’t know about. It might ma
ke a motherf**ker that don’t listen to rock go listen to some Guns-N-Roses.”
