Rapper turned actress, singer, spokeswoman and producer Queen Latifah became the first hip-hop artist crowned with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Latifah received the 2,298th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame while family and friends, including actor Terrence Howard, cheered her on.
Latifah debuted into the Hip Hop scene in 1989 with the album All Hail the Queen and slowly made a transition into TV and movies.
She was nominated for an Oscar in 2003 for her role in Chicago.
Born Dana Elaine Owens, she co-chairs the Lancelot H. Owens Scholarship Foundation, to help talented scholars with school expenses.
The foundation is named after her brother who died while riding a motorcyle she had given him as a present.
Her latest film, Last Holiday, which co-stars LL Cool J opens Jan. 13.

Damn shame!
I am glad for hiphop, but Will Smith should have gotten a star, before she did.I remember when you had to be at least in the business of acting for over 25 years to get a star. They give anybody stars these days, especially ones who can't act worth nothing.(just my opinion)!
